IOM Coordination Assistant (BMM II) Jobs in Uganda


Background and Context

  • IOM is one the main implementing partners for the second phase of the Better Migration Management (BMM II) funded by the EU Trust Fund for Africa, and coordinated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

  • The BMM II project is aimed at contributing to improvement of migration management by addressing trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, capacity development on immigration and border management (IBM), labor migration and migration policy development, through a whole of government migration governance.

  • Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator and the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer (NPO), the selected candidate will provide general coordination support for the effective implementation of the BMM II project in Uganda.

  • Act as the National Coordination committee on Migration (NCM) focal point and liaise between the NCM secretariat, Government, local and international NGOs and other key stakeholders;

  • Provide support to the NCM Secretariat in organizing and coordinating meetings, training including drafting meeting agendas, sending out invitations, drafting summaries of coordination meetings, circulation of relevant materials and publications among partner agencies;

  • Collect information in the area of migration in Uganda and support in drafting reports, various consultations and briefing notes on migration and related topics.

  • Contribute to overall IOM public information and communication activities by assisting in preparing regular updates on activities.

  • Participate in relevant meetings as assigned.

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned

    Required Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s university degree from an accredited academic institution in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, International Relations or related field with at least two years of relevant working experience;

    OR

  • High Diploma/Certificate with 4 years of professional experience.

    Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of information technology and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

  • Experience implementing migration management project and capacity-building activities;

  • Experience liaising with government agencies as well as with various national and international NGOs;

  • Sound and proven understanding of migration issues in Uganda and in East Africa.

  • Experience working with United Nations Agency, Non-Governmental
    Organisations (NGOs), Government agencies or in the private sector;
    Proficient in computer software: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Words, Excel, power point and Internet Explorer).

    Languages

  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
