Context

  • Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub-Office and the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Transition & Recovery Unit) in Abyei , the successful candidate will be accountable for providing technical support and contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of Transition & Recovery Unit’s (TRU) peacebuilding, conflict management, local governance and women empowerment activities in Abyei and other locations of TRU programming as needed.

    Core Functions / Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance for the roll-out of peace building activities, conflict management, local governance and women empowerment activities.

  • Contribute to the development of, and implement and monitor conflict management and peacebuilding activities and training curriculums.

  • Implement capacity building and awareness raising activities on conflict transformation, peace-building and organizational development for youth and women’s unions and other groups as needed.

  • Conduct induction and training sessions with partner organization and staff on conflict resolution as needed.

  • Maintain strong and regular liaison with the project/programme partners, such as governmental authorities, national non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and any other concerned agencies and working groups, aiming at coordinating, and discussing new activities and facilitating the implementation of ongoing activities for new projects/programmes.

  • Organise and monitor community participation in specific aspects related to project implementation.

  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites and provide on-site technical guidance. Draft regular project/programme reports for all project/programmes in a timely manner.

  • Identify gaps and opportunities for further programming; provide technical inputs to support the development of concepts notes and project proposals to address the gaps identified.

  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Education

    • Master’s degree in Social Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

    • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.

    Experience

    • Experience in project implementation in post-conflict or transitional situations;

    • Demonstrated experience in community-based approach in conflict management and mediation;

    • Demonstrated experience in peace building and mediation programming;

    • Similar work experience in South Sudan;

    • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and capacity building activities.

    Languages

  • IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Arabic, French, Spanish and/or local language is an advantage.

  • Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments
