    In Ethiopia, CRS has a long and rich history of providing emergency relief and development assistance to the people of Ethiopia since 1958. At present, CRS/Ethiopia implements multiple projects through different partner organizations.

    CRS/Ethiopia has a highly diverse portfolio ranging from very large food-supported emergency response to cutting edge development programs. The current CRS/Ethiopia budget stands at $100 million with funding from the U.S. Government, UN agencies, private foundations, individual donors, and CRS private funds.

    Background

    CRS’ DFSA is a USAID funded Food for Peace supported initiative to sustain and build upon the previous food security improvements achieved under the Government of Ethiopia’s (GoE) framework of the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP).

    PSNP IV is the most recent iteration and has expanded from its traditional emphasis on food and cash transfers for work and maternal, child health and nutrition (MCHN), to now include Gender, Youth, and Economic Livelihoods (on-farm, off-farm, and employment pathways).

    The goal of the CRS DFSA is: Food, Nutrition and Livelihoods Security of Households and Communities Improved and Sustained. The DFSA is from September 30, 2016 through September 29, 2021.

    The DFSA has three Purposes (PSNP Systems, Economic Livelihoods, Health and Nutrition) and one cross-cutting Purpose (Gender and Youth); as outlined below:

  • Goe and community systems respond to reduce communities' and households' vulnerability to shocks (Purpose I)
  • Households improve their sustainable livelihood and economic well being (Purpose II)
  • Pregnant and lactating women and children under five have improved nutritional status (Purpose III)
  • Women and youth have increased access to and control of community and HH resources (SPX)

    CRS’ DFSA is implemented by CRS, Mercy Corps, MCS and Hararghe Catholic Secretariats in Oromia regional state and Dire

    Dawa Administrative Council, in nine woredas namely Ziway Dugda, Arsi Negele, Heben Arsi, Shalla, Deder, Melka Belo, Midega, Tola Babile, and Dire Dawa.

    Therefore, CRS/Ethiopia is looking for a qualified and experienced translator from English language to Afan Oromo.

    Scope of Work

  • The objective of this assignment is to translate LF/ LH Extension Approach and MG Field Manual from English to Afan Oromo.
  • The translation of 28 and 9 pages documents respectively to Afan Oromo is expected not word by word rather it will be done based on concept without losing its content and meaning.

    General activities

    are to have meetings/discussions with CRS/ET DFSA team to agree on shared translated drafts with CRS/ET DFSA team; and get ongoing feedback to refine the document.

    Contextualized artwork:

  • As products will be used by field agents to organize training to communities and use the manual for day to day to provide technical support for promotion of improved practices in three zones (Arsi, West Arsi and East Hararghe) of Oromia regional state and Dire Dawa Administrative Council in nine woredas namely Ziway Dugda, Arsi Negele, Heben Arsi, Shalla, Deder, Melka Belo, Midega, Tola Babile, and Dire Dawa-rural kebeles.
  • Integrate on-going feedback and input from DFSA team: The translator should seek and integrate feedback from the DFSA team.
  • Sharing each draft translated document as available and ensuring later work integrates the feedback and input of the DFSA team.
  • Until the products reach to the desired stage it needs to be worked and re-worked addressing/incorporating DFSA team comments.

    Deliverable:
  • Soft copy of translated from English to Afan Oromo document that to be produced by CRS-DFSA team and distributed to field staff.

    Job Requirements

    Education:

  • MA/MSC or BA/BSC Degree in social science or related field of studies

    Experience
  • 2 years for 2nd Degree or 5 years for 1st Degree
  • Extensive Afaan Oromo to English and vice a versa translation experience
  • Familiar to INGO sector
