    In Ethiopia, CRS has a long and rich history of providing emergency relief and development assistance to the people of Ethiopia since 1958.

    At present, CRS/Ethiopia implements multiple projects through different partner organizations. CRS/Ethiopia has a highly diverse portfolio ranging from very large food-supported emergency response to cutting edge development programs.

    The current CRS/Ethiopia budget stands at $100 million with funding from the U.S. Government, UN agencies, private foundations, individual donors, and CRS private funds.

    Background

    CRS’ DFSA is a USAID funded Food for Peace supported initiative to sustain and build upon the previous food security improvements achieved under the Government of Ethiopia’s (GoE) framework of the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP).

    PSNP IV is the most recent iteration and has expanded from its traditional emphasis on food and cash transfers for work and maternal, child health and nutrition (MCHN), to now include Gender, Youth, and Economic Livelihoods (on-farm, off-farm, and employment pathways).

    The goal of the CRS DFSA is: Food, Nutrition and Livelihoods Security of Households and Communities Improved and Sustained.

    The DFSA is from September 30, 2016 through September 29, 2021. The DFSA has three Purposes (PSNP Systems, Economic Livelihoods, Health and Nutrition) and one cross-cutting Purpose (Gender and Youth); as outlined below:

  • Goe and community systems respond to reduce communities' and households' vulnerability to shocks (Purpose I)
  • Households improve their sustainable livelihood and economic well being (Purpose II)
  • Pregnant and lactating women and children under five have improved nutritional status (Purpose III)
  • Women and youth have increased access to and control of community and HH resources (SPX)
    CRS’ DFSA is implemented by CRS, Mercy Corps, MCS and Hararghe Catholic Secretariats (HCS).
  • The DFSA is implemented in three zones (Arsi, West Arsi and East Hararghe) of Oromia regional state and Dire Dawa Administrative Council, in nine woredas namely Ziway Dugda, Arsi Negele, Heben Arsi, Shalla, Deder, Melka Belo, Midega, Tola Babile, and Dire Dawa.
  • Therefore, CRS/Ethiopia is looking for a qualified and experienced Artist to draw/produce flip chart in a form of Calendar.

    Scope of Work

    The objective of this assignment is to produce flip chart in the form of calendar focusing on cropping/farming seasonal calendar for crop/livestock and NRM to support LF/LH and LG members.

    Topics and ideas for drawings will be submitted by

    the DFSA technical team and will include the promotion of:
  • Crop practices, techniques and Technology graphic designs
  • Integrated watershed management
  • Land preparation using; oxen drawn -plough; Dongora, Seedbed preparation for nursery for vegetable seeds
  • Planting in row; Conservation based/contour farming; Transplanting in to the field
  • Use of organic fertilizer; Manuring; Compost preparation and application; r
  • Weeding, cultivation
  • Water harvesting
  • SSI; Drip irrigation
  • IPM
  • Intercropping; Alley cropping
  • Earthen up; cultivation
  • At optimum growth stage harvesting
  • Crop residue/ hay management; Area enclosures-use of cut and carry
  • Use of clean threshing facility
  • Improved storage facility
  • Livestock management practices, techniques and Technology
  • Lead herders and LG members good Livestock management practices
  • Livestock feeding, feed management, fattening practices
  • Livestock health (vaccination, veterinary services and inputs, CAHWs, PVP, private and public veterinary services,
  • NRM practices, techniques and Technology
  • Lead farmers/herders using agro-forestry
  • Area closure befit to LG/YLG members
  • Lead farmers/herders practicing FMNR
  • Agro dealer graphic designs
  • Agro dealer bill board design
  • Agrodelar shop linkage with lead farmers/herders and LG

    General activities
  • are to have meetings/discussions with CRS/ET DFSA team to agree on drawings/content, draw/sketch the pieces; share drafts with CRS/ET DFSA team; and get ongoing feedback to refine drawings.

    Contextualized artwork:
  • As products will be used for awareness-raising and promotion of improved practices to community conversation in three zones (Arsi, West Arsi and East Hararghe) of Oromia regional state and Dire Dawa Administrative Council, in nine woredas namely Ziway Dugda, Arsi Negele, Heben Arsi, Shalla, Deder, Melka Belo, Midega, Tola Babile, and Dire Dawa, all the contents of the posters (personal appearance, clothing, housing, environment, etc.) should reflect a general Ethiopian and in particular the areas mentioned context.
  • Integrate on-going feedback and input from DFSA team: The artist should seek and integrate feedback from the DFSA team in an iterative manner.
  • Sharing each draft drawing as available and ensuring later work integrates the guidance and input of the DFSA team.
  • Until the products reach to the desired stage it needs to be worked and re-worked addressing/incorporating DFSA team comments.

    Deliverable
  • 15 A4 drawings but in each A4 can be more than one drawing, which has got similar message but implemented by different tools for different crops, Livestock, NRM and agro dealer which can be printed to poster size .

    Job Requirements

    Required Qualification

  • BA/Diploma/Certificate in Art

    Experience, Competencies and Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in drawing and producing posters for national and international development organizations.
  • Evidence of former similar works.
  • Reference from organization/s for similar work done.
