Internews Network Humanitarian Director Jobs in SouthSudan
The Humanitarian Director oversees the community communications and community engagement projects run by Internews in five refugee and Protection of Civilians camps across South Sudan**.
The HD is also** a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) for Internews in South Sudan andplays a critical coordination role within Internews.
Within the wider humanitarian response to the ongoing South Sudan crisis the HD is expected to lead efforts in community engagement, CwC and AAP activities with partner NGO’s and responding UN Agencies.
This position reports to the Chief of Party, but closely collaborates with all department heads.
The position is based in Juba, South Sudan with frequent travel and extended stays throughout South Sudan
Responsibilities
This a leadership post where the HD will be leading the designing, advocating and implementation of the Internews South Sudan approach in media led community engagement in all its various forums and using multiple channels (trainings, presentations, website, papers and articles).
Design, create and implement training modules, materials and tools to train humanitarian aid agencies in how to share information specifically with effected communities so as to maintain and grow Internews as a leading, innovative partner doing critical humanitarian work.
Lead relationships with humanitarian partners (UN and NGO) and with UNMISS to strategize about the implementation of effective community communications and engagement in their area of operation, such as through the cluster meetings in Juba, and in particular the Protection, Health and CCCM clusters.
Expand Internews’
presence in regional and national level cluster representation, ensuring Internews continues to have a seat at the table for discussions and decisions around priorities in the humanitarian response
Qualifications
A university degree in a humanitarian or communication or international development related subject or the equivalent relevant experience
A thorough understanding of the UN Cluster system, Peacekeeping Operations, humanitarian agencies, and relief and development work
Proven successes in leading, motivating and coordinating multiple project teams, including budget management, reporting/M&E and the monitoring of work plans and training plans
Extensive experience in community engagement, with a strong focus on the feedback loop from the communities into the humanitarian system as well as experience in deploying Communication with Communities (CwC) methodologies
Experience in designing and writing project and funding proposals
Familiarity with USAID rules and regulations and grants administration is highly desirable
Experience living and working in Africa and in conflict environments
Ability to adjust to shifting political circumstances and adapt programming accordingly
Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the work place
Must be self-reliant, resourceful, good problem-solver, good humored, and flexible
Ability to travel within and spend extended time in the field, with limited facilities, often under harsh conditions
Fluency in English a must, Arabic a bonus
Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values
