Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Attend to all patients daily in hospital wards.

  • Ensure effective hospital operations across all wards.

  • Manage emergencies (medical and surgical).

  • Supervise staff in respective wards.

  • Ensure proper documentation of patient care.

  • Conduct daily ward rounds (maternity, adult, pediatrics, stabilization, isolation).

  • Verify case management per protocols/guidelines.

  • Document departmental needs for budgeting.

  • Provide weekly updates on ward status and trends.

  • Set departmental targets and manage performance.

  • Manage and escalate departmental issues.

  • Carry out elective and emergency obstetric/gynecological cases.

  • Conduct elective and emergency surgical cases.

  • Run weekly special clinics (SOPC, GOPC, HRC, MOPC, POPC).

  • Attend to medical legal cases (P3 forms, court sessions).

  • Ensure sexual assault survivors are promptly attended at GBV centre.

  • Ensure timely referrals to secondary/tertiary care centers.

    Human Resource

  • Lead patient care teams.

  • Supervise nursing staff.

  • Develop leave plans and duty rotas.

  • Manage disciplinary cases with HR support.

  • Attend clinical staff meetings and provide updates.

  • Act as Clinical Services Program Manager in absence of Health Manager.

  • Coordinate and participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME).

    Program Activities

  • Conduct daily ward rounds.

  • Serve as doctor on call weekly (24/7).

  • Carry out emergency surgical/obstetric cases.

  • Conduct weekly special clinics.

  • Document diagnoses, treatment plans and patient care.

  • Attend morning handover meetings.

  • Lead departmental death audits and follow up action points.

  • Head quality improvement team and ensure
    completion of action plans.

  • Fill referral forms for emergency and elective referrals.

    Reporting & Coordination

  • Share timely, accurate information with communities on services, staff behavior and feedback mechanisms.

  • Promote feedback mechanisms to capture and respond to community complaints.

  • Report community needs and feedback to managers.

    Others

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Key Result Areas

  • Improved quality of care in wards/hospital.

  • Quality emergency obstetric care in maternity.

  • Prompt referral of patients.

  • Proper documentation of patient care.

  • Effective outbreak management.

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB).

  • Registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

  • Minimum 2 years’ hospital experience.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

    Required Experience & Competencies

  • Flexible, team player and results‑oriented.

  • Ability to work in challenging, multitasking environments.

  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
