International Rescue Committee Kenya Senior Field Coordinator Opportunities


Responsibilities

  • Support the integration of program activities to create coherent, quality and complimentary programming; Specific focus to ensure strong integration of program support functions with direct program related activities
    Participate in workshops at field level to establish and monitor annual operating plans for the strategic plan;
  • Ensure that all project activities are consistent with established best practices and IRC’s Program Framework principles.
  • Act as IRCs Security Focal Point for the field site.
  • Ensure all staff in the field site know and understand IRC Hagadera and Garissa’s security regulations; Document and address breaches of policy and disciplinary issues in coordination with the Security Manager.
  • Monitor the Hagadera and Garissa security situation, attend security meetings and inform the Security Manager, and SMT where appropriate, of developments through submission of accurate weekly and –where needed- ad-hoc security and incident reports.
  • Participate in the review and update of the country Security Management Plan.
  • Assist the Security Manager in developing field specific Contingency Plans, Medevac, Evacuation Plans and SOPs.
  • Assist the Security Manager with developing training plans for staff and conducting trainings.

    Qualifications

  • Six or more year’s progressive management and leadership experience with an International NGO.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant management or technical field.
  • Experience managing country program teams with a diverse portfolio; knowledge of major donors (including USAID/OFDA/PRM, ECHO/EC, DFID, UN Agencies).
  • Strong background in Supply Chain, Logistics, Administration.
  • Experience in IT is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing Security in a hostile environment.
  • Excellent leadership, people management, interpersonal and negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to develop harmonious teams in cross cultural context.
  • Strong diplomatic skills. Ability to establish good working relationships with partners, donors and other stakeholders in a sensitive environment.
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    International Rescue Committee Kenya Temporary Finance Assistant Opportunities

    Responsibilities

  • Monthly Reconciliation of all bank accounts and preparation of payment listings ready for review and upload into the sun system.
  • Manage the petty cash by ensuring that all payments are done according to the provided procedures and set limits. .
  • Preparation of petty cash spreadsheets to upload stage ready for review by Deputy Director or his designate at the end of the month.
  • Ensuring that authorizations on the payments requests are in line with the approved limits per the delineation chart.
  • Ensure authorized receipts are correctly coded and issued upon receipt of monies.
  • Ensure that a supervised petty cash counts are performed every Friday.
  • Maintaining the receipt book and ensuring that authorized receipts are issued upon receipt of monies.
  • Ensure that PAYE and other payroll deductions are remitted before the 9th of the following month.
  • Oversee the maintenance of an accurate and updated cash flow report. Provide weekly updates on this to the Deputy Director or his designate.
  • Work closely with the Deputy Director or his designate to ensure that there is sufficient bank reserves at all times for all bank accounts.
  • Maintain an organized and well-documented bank correspondences file ensuring it’s continuously updated.
  • Perform regular supplier reconciliation to be done on a monthly basis.

    Qualifications

  • Work experience in a similar position.
  • At least three years of finance and accounting experience in a similar post;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software. SUN System accounting is an added advantage;
  • Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing professional environment with a view towards establishing administrative procedures and protocol that will ensure optimal functioning of the operation;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills;
  • Ability to work in and as a team.

    International Rescue Committee Kenya WASH Manager/Team Leader Opportunities

    Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Field Coordinator establish contacts with relevant international/local NGOs and line ministries in the area of operation;
  • Ensure that all projects in target locations are implemented in a timely and professional manner, according to objectives, goals and indicators established by SPHERE and partner/organizational standards and in line with donor requirements and beneficiary needs;
  • Conduct routine assessments as needed to determine the water, sanitation and hygiene needs within your target locations; this will also include evaluation of ongoing technical interventions and make recommendations as needed.
    With assistance of the Field Coordinator develop a
  • WASH Strategy which must include technical specifications, if required for the installation of all water and sanitation infrastructure in supported medical facilities, including requirements for any mobile health units and host communities including but not limited to repair and O&M of existing boreholes, restoration of existing earth dams (Haffirs), improved hand dug wells, construction of demonstration latrines, hygiene campaigns, hygiene promotion activities including distributions;
  • In coordination with the Field Coordinator, assist with technical support and capacity building for WASH staff under your direct management.
  • Ensure all implementation plans employ a programming approach that integrates the needs of other sectors of work especially Health
  • Monitor budgets, materials, equipment and supplies for technical work for your program locations and allocated budgets;
  • When requested by the Field Coordinator, provide regular reports, document results and maintain detailed records of progress and monitoring schedules for activities in your locations.
  • At end of assignments, provide comprehensive handover of responsibilities to field colleagues for effective and high quality continuity of program.

    Qualifications

  • University degree in civil/environmental engineering or related field;
  • Minimum 3 years professional technical experience in Environmental Health, roads, structures and/or water delivery/production;
  • Minimum 2 years overseas experience, preferably in a conflict or post disaster setting;
  • Solid managerial skills and experience in an international multi-cultural setting;
  • Strong project planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Proven technical writing skills;
  • Budget management experience of $1,000,000 USD+
  • Competent in Windows, MS office programs, AutoCAD (or similar computer aided design), email and database experience;
  • Interpersonal qualities: Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure in a professional manner
  • Safety and security aware, driven and self-starting, resilient and emotionally intelligent;
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, and any local language skills are a plus
