International Rescue Committee Emergency Manager Jobs in Kenya;

Main Responsibilities

Project Planning & Design

  • Spearhead rapid needs assessments and baseline surveys for emergency response.

  • Lead design and development of specifications and SOPs for emergency initiatives.

  • Develop and implement effective strategies in consultation with response staff.

  • Identify and plan for disaster and project risks.

  • Ensure projects align with country strategy and priorities.

    Project Implementation

  • Manage emergency response projects within approved budgets and timelines.

  • Monitor and supervise activities, overseeing technical design and execution.

  • Review and approve tender documents including specifications and BOQs.

  • Integrate DRR, beneficiary participation and accountability mechanisms.

  • Manage contracts with consultants, contractors and suppliers.

  • Build and maintain relationships with partners, stakeholders and clients.

    Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Develop robust M&E framework with MEAL team.

  • Supervise activities in adherence to SOPs, IRC policies, government regulations and donor guidelines.

  • Ensure timely delivery of activities and payments.

  • Maintain updated project documents including work plans, logframes and forecasts.

  • Ensure water safety and disaster risk management plans are in place.

    Fundraising & Networking

  • Develop new proposals linked to country SAP.

  • Represent IRC in networks, UN cluster meetings and line ministries.

    Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of interventions.

  • Provide updates on progress against work plans.

  • Maintain activity and indicator tracking tools.

  • Document lessons learned and best practices.

  • Participate in inter‑sectoral activities.

    Staff Management

  • Ensure staff adhere
    to IRC values, code of conduct and policies.

  • Provide mentorship, supervision and training for staff.

  • Facilitate regular meetings for information sharing and feedback.

  • Assess training needs and ensure appropriate training is provided.

    Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Health Science, Community Development, Social Development, Nursing, Public Health or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in emergency response, humanitarian work or development.

    Required Experience & Competencies

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in WASH, Public Health, Community Development or Emergency Response.

  • Strong understanding of humanitarian standards and disease outbreak response.

  • Experience in community engagement and participatory approaches.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships.

  • Ability to conduct needs assessments, program planning, implementation and evaluation.

  • Good computer skills (MS Office).
