Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) founded in 1933, was registered in Uganda in 1998, and currently operates across Uganda.

It initially started serving internally displaced people (IDPs) in Lira and Kitgum districts and populations affected by conflict in Karamoja sub-region but, has ex-panded to serve refugees and vulnerable host communities in West Nile, Lamwo, Kiryandongo, Kyegegwa and Kampala.

The IRC implements relief and rehabilitation programs in the sectors of Health, Education, Governance and Rights, Gender-based Violence, and Economic Recovery and Development (ERD). The IRC has field Offices in the areas of operation.

Program Background

In partnership with the IKEA Foundation, the IRC and a network of local and global partners have developed a program – Refugees in East Africa: Boosting Urban Innovations for Livelihoods Devel-opment (Re: Build) – that sets out to do just that.

Re: Build’s vision is for urban refugees and vul-nerable host residents to achieve economic self-reliance and benefit from strengthened urban economic, regulatory, and social environments.

Re: Build will aim to enable change at varying lev-els, from better access to livelihoods opportunities and inclusive services within communities, to improved refugee-related policies and more targeted and effective service delivery from national, regional, and global actors.

  • We will do this by delivering an integrated multi-stakeholder program with three core pillars:

  • Service Provision: delivering livelihoods services and community- and market-oriented interventions to 20,000 clients in low-income neighborhoods in Nairobi and Kampala.

  • Evidence and Learning: gathering evidence and learning through an iterative process of testing involving pilots, randomized control trials (RCTs), monitoring data, and other tailored methods that help build the picture of what works to improve urban refugee livelihoods; and
    3)Influence and Adoption: establishing a bold influencing agenda aimed at changing policies,
    practices, and investments at national, regional, and global levels by encouraging adoption of program evidence and learning.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the training in data collection methodologies and tools.

  • Carryout pretesting of tools and gathering feedback.

  • Make calls to clients to book appointments, register and conduct interviews.

  • Take notes/transcribe interviews conducted and prepare summaries.

  • To
    collect and update relevant data that meets the intended purpose and quality using the recommended data collection tools/methods and platforms.

  • To ensure compliance to organizational performance standards, code of conduct and safe-guarding policy.

  • Fill in and submit to supervisor timesheets detailing level of effort per day worked.

  • To adhere to confidentiality procedures and policies when collecting, storing, and sharing data.

  • Safeguard gadgets provided including but not limited to tablets.

  • Complete daily scheduled activities and all tasks assigned by the team leader in a timely manner.

  • Position may involve extensive day travel and walking in the communities.

    Qualifications

  • Diploma or equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Other qualifications in M & E shall be an added advantage.

    Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to manage own and other people’s workloads and deliver to deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and be confident in addressing a crowd.

  • Experience working with tablets and on computers for data entry.

  • Experience administering surveys and/or conducting interviews.

  • Previous research work experience is an advantage.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to take responsibility and prioritize efficiently.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to enhance good interpersonal relationship.

  • A good command of both written and spoken English. Knowledge of Luganda, Swahilli, Somali, Lingala and/ or Amharic will be an advantage.

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Works both independently and collaboratively with team members to achieve results.

  • Relates and works well with people of different cultures, gender, and backgrounds.

  • Flexibility and prepared to work additional hours.

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Able to respond rapidly to changing environments yet remain productive and focused.
