Job Description

  • Review and prepare payment packages for vendor AP bill packages for submission and review in JAMIS, vet and review invoices and other payment vouchers prior to submitting packages to Field Accountant to ensure accuracy
    Oversee petty cash management, ensuring regular cash counts and review of reconciliations.
    Coordinate drafting of rolling budgets for RPO-Operations review

  • Provide backstopping support to Field Accountant, including bank runs and payment deposits as needed, and serving as the Field Accountant alternate during Field Accountant absences or travel.

  • Lead on the organization and maintenance of administrative, human resource and operations files in the field.

  • Support the Resident Program Officer – Operations (RPO-O) with Human Resource management and IRI compliance with local laws and requirements associated with IRI’s registration status.

  • Support RPO-O on day-to-day office management including liaising with telecommunications vendors, landlord, and regular contractors and covering Reception responsibilities as needed.

  • Provide logistical support to activities as assigned and travel from time to time to support field office accounting and procurement needs.

  • Maintain office equipment inventory, liaising with DC accounting as required

  • Assist with field office procurement processes in compliance with IRI and funder requirements Contribute to Ethiopia Office weekly report as it relates to financial and operational updates

  • Maintain an understanding of funder and IRI policies and procedures related to accounting, grant
    compliance and oversight

  • Assist in ensuring field office staff have a strong understanding of IRI finance, procurement, and security policies and procedures and provide training as needed
    Performs other duties as assigned

    Job Requirements

    Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration preferred.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience, knowledge of general accounting principles and US Government and other donor funding rules and regulations, financial reporting, and disclosure requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience with the finance/accounting and administration functions of international and local organizations. Prior US Government contracts and/or grants experience strongly preferred.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English (other language fluency a plus).

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and basic accounting software packages.

    Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting on Human Resource related tasks, with a strong understanding of compliance with Ethiopian Labor Laws.

  • Experience in providing technical support and training in finance, accounting and operations systems to staff.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and the capacity to exercise good judgment in making financial decisions and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Ability to conduct all work with the highest level of discretion and honesty according to IRI’s values.

  • Ability to multi-task and achieve multiple priorities, including planning, organizing, prioritizing, and paying close attention to details.

  • Able to meet deadlines.
