International Organization for Migration Regional Medical Officer Jobs in Kenya
Responsibilities
Medical Examinations Oversight
Review and validate medical examination reports (EOD, PME, driver fitness exams, long-term sick leave, disability cases, independent medical examinations)
Ensure examinations meet quality standards and comply with IOM-OHU protocols
Assess medical fitness for duty and deployment, including hardship duty stations
Screen medical questionnaires for staff and dependents
Authorize extended insurance coverage upon exit when medically justified
Clinical Duties and Medical Support
Undertake clinical duties including consultations, emergency response, and follow-up care
Provide occupational health services (immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, travel kits)
Refer staff to external specialists and ensure follow-up
Support health education and preventive health campaigns
Address workplace health risks including ergonomic assessments and mental health support
Health Insurance and Claims Management
Oversee review of medical insurance claims for accuracy and compliance
Detect and prevent fraud in suspicious medical documents
Liaise with insurance providers to resolve coverage gaps
Support Insurance Unit in providing information on coverage, entitlements, and claims
Occupational Health and Safety
Implement Occupational Health Strategy regionally, including risk assessments
Coordinate emergency medical support and evacuations
Provide pre-travel medical briefings and ensure staff preparedness
Act as OHU’s regional representative on occupational health hazards and crisis response
Medico-Administrative Advisory
Advise HR and senior management on medical standards for recruitment, sick leave, and travel
Participate in crisis preparedness planning and business continuity
Supervise medical clearances for staff across UN entities
Training and Supervision
Implement health education programs (HIV/AIDS prevention, first aid, CPR)
Ensure availability of medical supplies and proper functioning of equipment
Reporting and Documentation
Submit regular reports on high-cost cases, exclusions, incidents, and sick
leave trends
Maintain confidential medical records in compliance with data protection standards
Provide statistical insights to inform health policy and program development
Stakeholder Engagement
Represent IOM in inter-agency health forums and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers
Provide technical input to donor proposals and health-related projects
Act as focal point for regional health emergencies and coordinate response efforts
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
Doctorate in Medicine from an accredited institution
Post-doctoral Diploma in a specialty branch (Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Occupational Medicine)
Additional qualifications in Occupational and Travel Medicine are an asset
Experience
Seven years’ post-doctorate experience in clinical medicine
Experience in occupational health, travel/tropical medicine, preventive medicine, medical evacuations, mental health, and crisis management (asset)
At least 3 years’ managerial/supervision experience with clinical staff
Experience in medical insurance and health claim analysis desirable
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in occupational health practice an asset
Experience liaising with international organizations and hospitals in different countries an asset
