International Organization for Migration Project Development and Donor Relations Officer(for Korean nationals only) - Jobs in Kenya


Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Assess potential programme opportunities and projects, draft project proposals and concept notes in the areas of interest to the IOM Kenya Country Office, compile and review project reports, fact sheets and other documents in coordination with relevant program units.
  • Maintain strong and regular contacts with donors and private sector entities in Kenya to mobilize resources for IOM’s humanitarian and development portfolios, under the guidance of senior management.
  • Provide inputs and regularly update and share tools that allow the Country Office to keep track and speed up project development, endorsement, project code issuance etc. in close coordination with Regional Office (RO) and relevant units of HQs.
  • Assist the Programme Managers (PM) in maintaining continuous liaison with donors, project partners, other IOM missions, RO and Headquarters (HQ) to facilitate a coordinated approach to project implementation, identify synergies with IOM's programmes and make recommendations on donor/partner engagement.
  • Review migration trends in the Country and Region and prepare briefing notes whenever requested.
  • In collaboration with Headquarters/ Donor Relations Division and other relevant Units carry out extensive prospecting and due diligence screenings of potential private sector partners for Kenya programmes.
  • Conduct desk research and prepare background information to support programme and project proposals, draft donor profiles and develop an extensive contact list of all relevant stakeholders to ensure a positive outreach, develop guidance notes on donor priorities; assist in developing approaches to expand the IOM donor base, including research and mapping of funding trends.
  • Organize seminars, donor outreach events, donor briefings, field visits, and presentations for stakeholders in the Country.
  • Undertake field travel related to programme assessment, liaison with counterparts and donor capital visits, as required, and conduct other duties as may be assigned.
  • Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned.

    Required Qualifications and Experience:

    Education


  • Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of work experience.

    Experience

  • Minimum of two to three years’ work experience either on project development, project management, database management, project monitoring and evaluation relevant to MPA;
  • Experience in liaising with regional bodies, governmental authorities, other international/national institutions;
  • Working experience in direct assistance, project development and implementation, writing and editing technical documents;
  • Experience in working on East and Horn of Africa region an advantage;
  • Computer/software literate, preferably knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, knowledge of advanced publishing programmes. Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop with experience of maintaining a website;
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting.

    Skills

  • Proven expertise in the area of migrants’ protection, including regional consultative processes, migration data and policy development, counter trafficking and other protection issues;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of advanced publishing programmes;
  • Advance English writing, writing, communication and negotiation skills.

    Languages

    For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge in Swahili is an advantage.

  • Korean citizenship;
  • Fluency in English and Korean;
  • Completed university with a Bachelor’s degree;

  • Be no older than 32 years of age as of 31st December of 2022 (born after 1 January 1990) except for male applicants who have completed or are scheduled to complete national military service, for whom the age limit will be extended in accordance with the Support for Discharged Soldiers Act and the military service law by:

  • two years for serving one year or longer but less than two years; and
  • three years for serving two years or longer;
  • Male applicants must meet one of the following conditions:
  • completed the national military service;
  • exempted from the national military service; or
  • scheduled to be discharged from the military service in the year of application.

    Applicants must submit the following documentation as part of their application:

  • A copy of the Republic of Korea Register;
  • A copy of bachelor’s/advanced university degree;
  • A certificate of English language proficiency showing a minimum of (1) IBT TOEFL score of 100 (or PBT TOEFL 600 and above) or (2) NEW TEPS score of 430 or (3) IELTS 7 or (4) TOEIC 900 (TOEFL ‘MyBest Scores’ are not accepted);
  • For male applicants who have completed the national military service, a copy of the certificate of Korean Military Service;
  • For low-income applicants, a copy of the certificate of National Basic Livelihood Security Recipients in Korean and unofficial English translation; and
  • For applicants with a disability, a copy of the certificate of person with disability issued in Korean and English.

    As an integral part of the IOM assignment the Junior Professional Officer will:

  • Gain experience in an International Organization, including management and international cooperation activities, as well as understanding the dynamics of regional and international initiatives and working groups.
  • Be able to draft and finalize concept notes and project proposals, using the IOM logical and legal framework.
  • Participate in the development of programs, projects, trainings and workshops related to different migration areas.
  • Gain experience in working with governmental, non-governmental and United Nations institutions in Kenya.

  • The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.
  • Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment or visa requirements and security clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
