Job Description

Employee Position Summary

The Senior Logistics Officer will be the key person at the field level to ensure all logistical needs are fulfilled in a consistent manner.

As an integral staff member of the IMC Field officer, the Senior Logistics Officer will lead all aspects of logistic support to the program in Dollo Ado by undertaking technical and practical operational tasks to ensure smooth, safe and efficient operation of logistical activities.

The Senior Logistics Officer will be line managed by the Field Program Coordinator and be assisted by two assistant Logistics Officers. The post holder will be expected to undertake frequent travel to project locations.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide to your supervisor the technical oversight and input to manage staff support to, delivery of, and implementation of, all logistics support systems according to IMC Logistics policies and procedures.
  • Provide planning support and advice to those making a procurement request, then process and manage the procurement process (either locally or internationally) in accordance with IMC policies and procedures, in a transparent, accountable, efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Organizing procurement tracking system and support program and management team up-to-date and reliable information on the procurement status submit weekly and monthly report.
  • Work with supervisor to ensure that local market surveys are regularly carried out, to ensure a full knowledge of the availability and price of local items. Ensure that all procurements are managed, tracked and recorded.
  • Identify, and suggest items that should be part of a pre-approved tender process, and ensure that open and free competition for procurements is adhered too.
  • Manage the maintenance of accurate filing systems, with documented and supported records of actions for audit purposes.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly logistics reports to the in-country management team
  • Coordinates local and
    in country procurement activities.

  • Train and supervise logistics staff involved in procurement.

  • Maintain PR and PO tracking tools must be updated and shared with programs and country office logistics on weekly bases.


    Job Requirements

  • Evidence of practical experience in logistics within the field of supply chain management (procurement, tendering, contracting, clearance, transport, warehousing, asset management, etc.)

  • Evidence of management of logistics systems.

  • Evidence of the ability to plan for, and conduct training in all areas of logistics for national and international staff (suitable to staff knowledge level).

  • Some record of experience with donor specific procedures.

  • It is desirable that experience is supported by study by academic study, such as completion of the Certification in Humanitarian Logistics.

  • Experience of the provision of support to the management of budgets and the ability to provide input to the timely, complete and accurate reports.

  • The commitment and some demonstrated training skills to build national staff capacity, in the areas of supply chain management.

  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills, with an analytical approach

  • Good interpersonal, management and leadership skills

  • Excellent communication and customer relations skills

  • Ability to coordinate with others and work under pressure of tight and conflicting deadlines and handle concurrent activities

  • Evidence of ability to work in a participatory manner with staff to assess needs, implement and monitor activities

  • Ability to integrate and work well within multiethnic and multicultural teams

  • Ability to work in harsh conditions, often in remote areas.

  • Negotiation, interpersonal and organization skills

  • Valid driving license

  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office including MS Word and Excel, as well as email communications and other computer programs.
