Job Summary

The International Medical Corps (IMC) is looking for a Senior Security Manager for its humanitarian support to the refugees, emergency lifesaving for conflict-affected IDPs, and host communities living in Ethiopia. The Country Senior Security Manager works under the direction of the Country Director, and reports on technical issues to the Global Director. The primary function of the Country Senior Security Manager is to assist in the overall IMC mission in Ethiopia on all issues of safety and security. The Country Senior Security Manager oversees daily security management in all IMC missions in Ethiopia.

The Country Senior Security Manager will monitor and assess security conditions and makes recommendations to the Country Senior Management Team/SMT and advise the staff in the assigned area as appropriate. The Country Director is the direct supervisor of the Country's Senior Security Manager.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Monitor the daily security activities to ensure that safety and security policies and procedures are implemented in the assigned areas.
  • Assess the security situation and gather relevant threats and risks in the assigned areas that will help as input to develop the security guidelines, sops, and Contingency Plans.
  • Identify security threats and advise staff in coordination with supervisors.
  • Provide security training to staff in Dessie and surroundings and make sure they implement the SOPs.
  • Take a lead on the physical safety of the IMC facilities in the assigned area.
  • Report the incidents through the internal incident tracking system
  • When directed by the Senior Security officer, to involve in
    the investigations and provide the necessary support.
  • Participate as a key member in the Field Incident team in Dessie and play an important role.
  • Ensures logistics follows a servicing and maintenance schedule for vehicles
  • Follow on the provision of communications equipment and implemented as required mainly in emergency times.
  • Ensure weekly security reports are completed and report to the Senior Security Officer.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all staff and field management as well as other humanitarian organizations and partners in Dessie and the surroundings.

    Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps

As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.     Job Requirements

  • University degree in political science, social work, law enforcement, security, military science, or related fields.
  • Three progressive years of related experience and field security experience mainly in humanitarian organizations are required.
  • Security-related training and experience in military and security apparatus is an advantage.
  • Ability to relate to the national staff, local authorities, and external partners effectively
  • Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
  • Willing to travel to the field
  • Excellent computer skill
  • Excellent Report writing skills in English and Amharic languages are mandatory.
