Job Vacancy:

  • GBV Manager

    Job Purpose Summary: The primary function of the GBV Manager is to provide technical guidance and supervision for the successful implementation of GBV prevention and response activities of International Medical Corps in multiple sites in Somalia.

    He/she will also be responsible for the technical soundness of the program, as well as managing donor relations and country-level representation. The Manager will support, encourage, and coach a large contingent of international and national GBV staff.

    Core functions and responsibilities

  • Work closely with the country team and GBV staff to understand program goals and to meet expectations.
  • Contribute to ongoing assessments and analyses to better understand protection risks, to map points of service for survivors of GBV and vulnerable individuals, and to identify support structures.
  • Analyze trends of GBV and develop/adjust program strategies to meet need.
  • Contribute to program design and the preparation of concept notes and proposals.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of GBV programing, including the development of technically sound and contextual psycho-social support group curricula.
  • Work with Finance and Logistics to plan and procure supplies within program budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations.
  • Assist in the selection, training and support of qualified program staff.
  • Develop support strategies for staff and introduce principles of self-care.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and technical support for the establishment and implementation of GBV activities (including case management, psychosocial/emotional support, community support groups, information dissemination, risk mitigation activities and community mobilization).
  • Work closely with the GBV technical advisor in HQ, country level senior management and IMC
  • Program Managers based in the field to ensure achievement of IMC’s program goals.
  • Identify and reinforce existing support mechanisms and work closely with local counterparts to ensure community buy-in and cultural appropriateness of activities.
  • Work with teams and communities to develop appropriate prevention and awareness- raising/behavior change strategies.
  • Support staff that are running activities in the women friendly space (WFS). Oversee girls and women’s support programming including activities at WFS and work to achieve sustainable and community-owned mechanisms for these.
  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed.
  • To contribute towards Program Learning activities in order to measure impact and ensure continuing improvement. Including but not limited to:
  • Ensure the quality of activities through regular monitoring and technical support, data collection and management.
  • Generate
    regular, accurate and timely GBV data and narrative reports for purposes of program monitoring and promoting good understanding about projects best practices and lessons learned, with management, donors, partners, and communities.
    Contribute to information-sharing and data management systems.
  • Identify staff capacity gaps in GBV in different operational locations and develop staff training plans to build capacity on GBV for social workers, women empowerment officers, and GBV outreach officers.
  • Train GBV staff to build capacity for GBV prevention and response. Depending on skill sets and required roles, trainings may include: gender, guiding principles of addressing GBV, GBV case management, referral pathway development, compassionate care, facilitation skills, mobilization, project cycle management, etc.
  • Participate and contribute to Somalia based GBV and Protection sub-clusters forums and contribute to interagency initiatives.
  • Coordinate with local and international NGOs, UN agencies and other stakeholders to ensure holistic support for survivors, including participation in strengthening GBV SOPs and referral pathways.
  • Ensure maximum visibility of the agency amongst the UN and NGO community.

    Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree (Masters preferable) in Social Work, Public Health, Community Health,
  • Nursing/Midwifery, International Development or other relevant field of study.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in GBV program design and field implementation of protection/GBV coordination in humanitarian contexts. Relevant regional experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in delivering psychosocial support, psychological first aid and/or case management for survivors of GBV.
  • Practical experience in GBV prevention activities at community level.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating GBV training and interventions with key stakeholders: community leadership structures and survivor service providers.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Familiarity with global standards and guidelines for GBV programming and coordination.
  • Familiarity with international humanitarian operations, coordination structures, and the mandates of donors, UN agencies, and other NGOs.
  • Able to develop effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and Somali.
