International Medical Corps Country Director Jobs in Ethiopia; The Country Director is directly responsible for overall strategic planning, human resources, program design and implementation, program support operations, finance, administration, safety and security, monitoring and evaluation, expansion and reporting for the country program.
The role provides strategic leadership, advocacy and oversight, ensuring organizational setup is adapted to the operational context.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
Program Management
Develop country strategic plan and proposals aligned with IMC’s global framework.
Coordinate with HQ and departments to design and implement high‑quality programs.
Structure country team for efficient operations and accurate reporting.
Participate in proposal writing and reviews.
Ensure participation in UN Clusters and coordination mechanisms.
Lead monthly pipeline reviews and ensure alignment of spending with implementation.
Report regularly to HQ on operational and project developments.
Ensure monitoring, evaluation and reporting of all program activities.
Compliance
Oversee program operations and reporting, ensuring compliance with IMC standards, donor regulations and local laws.
Facilitate investigations on policy violations.
Oversee preparation of annual work plans and budgets.
Ensure compliance with labor and NGO laws.
Roll out protection risk assessments across projects.
Program Development
Develop funding/resource mobilization strategy.
Expand donor and financial portfolio.
Pursue new donor funding and maintain adequate levels.
Lead proposal
design and timely submission.
Establish partnerships and consortia.
Human Resources
Oversee recruitment, promotions, disciplinary actions and terminations.
Collaborate with security team to maintain staff safety.
Conduct site visits to support field staff.
Plan and manage program critical incidents including medical evacuation.
Sign all employment contracts.
Training & Capacity Building
Determine training needs and build capacity of national staff.
Ensure sustainability of programs through staff development.
Represent and plan professional development for staff.
Working Relationships
Maintain communication with supervisor and SMT.
Represent IMC at task force, UN and INGO coordination meetings.
Interface with national government and agencies to maximize resource allocation.
Lobby for resources to support staff wellbeing.
