International Livestock Research Institute Communication Officer III Jobs in Kenya
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Design
Carry out audience research and segmentation (farmers, youth, women, pastoralists, policymakers) to inform message design and delivery channels.
Design localized campaigns addressing behavioural and institutional barriers to technology adoption.
Collaborate with scientists and communication specialists to co‑create tailored messages for different audiences.
Implementation, Trust Building & Engagement
Coordinate field‑level campaigns using radio, social media, theatre, influencers, and farmer groups.
Build partnerships with local media, influencers, civil society, and county communication offices.
Support participatory community dialogues on livestock and climate practices.
Develop and apply M&E frameworks to assess communication reach and behavioural outcomes.
Monitor misinformation/disinformation and develop rapid response communication materials.
Support media training, influencer engagement, and science‑based communication knowledge sharing.
Capacity Building & Learning
Integrate SBCC approaches into project design and implementation.
Build capacity of local partners, youth networks, and extension workers.
Document lessons and best practices to inform ILRI and CGIAR scaling work.
Communication Support to the Portfolio
Develop materials, messages, and stories to ensure program visibility.
Provide updates through ILRI social media channels.
Oversee production of stories and communication products from the portfolio.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Development Communication, Behavioural Science, or related field.
Seven years’ professional experience designing and implementing SBCC programs
in agriculture, health, or climate/environment.
Experience in stakeholder analysis, audience segmentation, and formative research.
Demonstrated experience working with local media, government, and influencers.
Knowledge of M&E tools for communication and behaviour change.
Strong understanding of participatory communication, gender/inclusion, and digital/social media strategies.
Experience translating technical/scientific research into clear, engaging content.
Proven track record in developing communication products for local stakeholders.
Experience engaging media, influencers, and local leaders.
Fluency in English, Kiswahili, and other local languages preferred.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Positive attitude, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strategic and creative thinker with strong interpersonal and intercultural communication abilities.
