1. IFDC Nutrition & Communication Expert Jobs in Uganda


Project:
“Promotion of Nutrition Sensitive Potato Value Chains in East Africa (Uganda).”

Duty Post: based in Mbale District covering neighboring districts in the proximity of Mt Elgon.

Grade: IFDC BG-7

Duration: 45 month project expected to start latest October 2017

The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a Public International Organization governed by an international board of directors with representation from developed and developing nations. The non-profit center focuses on increasing and sustaining food and agricultural productivity in developing countries through the development and transfer of effective and environmentally sound crop nutrient technology and agribusiness expertise.

IFDC is recruiting staff for a current call for proposal for a potential 45 month project, focusing on interventions in the potato value chain in proximity to Mbale and Mt. Elgon.

Profile:

  • University degree in nutrition, household economics or related fields
  • At least 5 years professional experience in implementing projects in the nutrition sector with a focus on:
    (i) early childhood nutrition and
    (ii) promotion and inclusion of enhanced household nutrition and dietary diversity
  • Basic knowledge on M&E and communication is required
  • Work experience in Eastern Uganda is desirable
  • Proficient knowledge in English is required (at least C1- level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Knowledge of local languages (e.g. Masaaba/Lugishu) is a prerequisite

    Key tasks:

  • Leader of the nutrition component of the project
  • Responsibility for M&E as well as communication tasks
  • Assist the Project Leader with the day to day running of the project

    2. IFDC Potato Expert & Team Leader Jobs in Uganda

    The non-profit center focuses on increasing and sustaining food and agricultural productivity in developing countries through the development and transfer of effective and environmentally sound crop nutrient technology and agribusiness expertise.

    IFDC is recruiting staff for an upcoming 45 month project, focusing on interventions in the potato value chain in proximity to Mbale and Mt. Elgon.

    Profile:

  • University degree in agronomy or agricultural economics
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in implementing agricultural projects including leadership experience
  • Professional experience in Uganda and/or countries in East Africa with similar socioeconomic conditions
  • Work experience on topics related to the Irish potato value chain is required:
  • Good Agronomic Practices (GAP),
  • Farming as a Business (FaaB),
  • Training of farmers (ToT approach, potato seed multiplication and storage, screen house production systems etc.)
  • Support coordination between various actors in the potato value chain both at a regional and national level
  • Proficient knowledge in English is required (at least C1- level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Knowledge of local languages (e.g. Masaaba/Lugishu) is a prerequisite

    Key tasks:

  • Responsibility for the day to day leadership of the project
  • Leader of the Irish potato value chain and the sector coordination component of the project
  • Main contact person for partners and other stakeholders in the project area
  • Facilitation of the cooperation among stakeholders
  • Provision of guidance for other national staff employed by the project

    3. IFDC Short Term Potato Expert Jobs in Uganda

    Duty Post:
    based in Mbale District covering neighboring districts in the proximity of Mt Elgon.

    Grade: N/A

    Duration: 45 month project expected to start latest October 2017. Consultancies will be for a total of 20-60 working days within the
    project period.

  • Training of farmers (ToT approach, potato seed multiplication and storage, screen house production systems etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge in English is required (at least C1- level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Knowledge of local languages (e.g. Masaaba/Lugishu) is a prerequisite

    Key tasks:

  • Provide technical support to the Irish potato value chain including design and roll out of training on GAP and FaaB
  • Provide technical support to the design and implementation of the seed systems training for farmers and research institutions including techniques in production of basic seed.
  • Support specialist areas such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM), development of spray regimes, and locally appropriate storage options.

    4. Short term Nutrition Expert (Consultant) Jobs in Uganda

    Duty Post:
    based in Mbale District covering neighboring districts in the proximity of Mt Elgon.

    Duration: 45 month project expected to start latest October 2017. Consultancies will be between 20-60 working days within the project period.

    Profile:

  • University degree in nutrition, household economics or related fields
  • At least 5 years professional experience in implementing/consulting on projects in the nutrition sector with a focus on:

    (i) early childhood nutrition and
    (ii) promotion and inclusion of enhanced household nutrition and dietary diversity
    (iii)knowledge and experience in projects utilizing measurements such as the Individual Dietary Diversity Score (IDDS)
  • Work experience in Eastern Uganda is required
  • Proficient knowledge in English is required (at least C1- level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • Knowledge of local languages (e.g. Masaaba/Lugishu) is desirable

    Key tasks:

  • Provide technical support to the design of the nutrition component of the project including training manuals/materials, community dialogue approach and ICT strategy.
  • Provide technical support to the roll out and monitoring of the nutrition advisory services and suggest areas of improvement.
