International Committee of the Red Cross Regional Economic Security Data and Analysis Specialist Jobs in Kenya


Introduction

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational support to Delegations as a service as per their request including in assessments, monitoring and evaluation methods and tools, data collection and analysis, beneficiary data management and technical reviews;
  • Supports and coaches EcoSec staff to help build their own awareness and capacities in data and analysis;
  • Provides surge capacity for information management in emergencies, either at-a-distance or ready to deploy with short notice;
  • Serves as focal point for all EcoSec data collection and analysis at the field-level within the Africa Region;
  • Contributes to global/regional analysis of key indicators of concern to EcoSec such as macroeconomics, population movement, remittance trends, etc.;
  • Maintains library of tools and templates and shares and archives best practices;
  • In collaboration with the other members of the Data and Analysis Specialist team, develops and maintains guidance, tools and templates for field users;
  • In collaboration with the other members of the Data and Analysis Specialist team and EcoSec Advanced Trainers, provides support to identify appropriate trainings for EcoSec staff;
    Actively participates in, and animates sessions at the annual data and analysis workshop;
  • Maintains relationships with key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Works closely with other ICRC departments to contribute to multi-disciplinary analysis for the Region;
  • Scouts and tests new methods for EcoSec data collection, management and analysis;
    Supports in the elaboration of the Data and Analysis strategy;
  • Participate in internal/external workshops and seminars, and EcoSec-related forums
    Promote the principles of the Red Cross and of international humanitarian law;
  • As a representative of the ICRC, maintain contact and negotiate with government authorities – civilian and military – in order to carry out the work as effectively as possible.

    Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master-level or above) in a social science or in a technical domain related to information technology, data science or analysis; First-level degree in combination with 2 years relevant work experience may be considered;
  • 5-7 years of practical field and hands-on experience in information management or assessments, monitoring and evaluation of relief and/or livelihood interventions in a humanitarian context, including experience in designing and management assessment and monitoring exercises;
  • Solid understanding of assessment, monitoring and evaluation concepts and methods used in humanitarian emergencies, particularly armed conflict and other situations of violence, and humanitarian interventions;
  • Knowledge of key indicators used in monitoring humanitarian situations and populations directly and indirectly affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence and humanitarian interventions;
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and manipulate data and information from different sources (including primary and secondary) and in different formats and scales;
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and overseeing data collection exercises including secondary data reviews and extraction and field surveys;
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality analytical writing adapted to both technical and non-technical audiences;
