Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Protection Coordinator, Child Protection Field Officer is responsible for the implementation of child protection activities in the Maiduguri SD. S/he will contribute to the coherence of ICRC’S response to the protection needs of children affected by NIAC in the North East of Nigeria.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Is the focal person of the North East for all matters related to children related to the ICRC mandate, specifically in understanding, analyzing, identifying and addressing child protection concerns.

  • Contribute to the understanding of the delegation regarding child protection needs, institutions and policies in NE Nigeria. This will be done through field, discussions with affected communities, participation in multidisciplinary assessments and engagement with other stakeholders focusing on already identified issues to ensure that their rights are protected.

  • Regular analysis of issues affecting children, identification of objectives, priorities among them and proposing ICRC’s responses, whenever needed.

  • Supports the implementation of child protection activities as per the delegation’s Child Protection strategy, in coordination with other protection and assistance departments when necessary.

  • Ensures the successful completion of ongoing projects and together with Child Protection Delegate evaluates the need for continuation, expansion and/or relevance for similar projects, as well as proposing relevant actions that address vulnerabilities and needs of affected children in line with the strategy.

  • Has a solid understanding and analysis of ongoing other programmes for affected children and establishes a referral pathway. As required, coordinates/work with other Stakeholders (UNICEF, UNHCR, MoWASD, and local NGOs) to support to children affected by the conflict.

  • Strengthening of referral pathway and constantly updates the stakeholders’ mapping for CP with other PROT colleagues

  • Supports with conducting individual and collective interviews with stakeholders and beneficiaries, namely CAAFAG, IDP children and other vulnerable children.

  • Reports on the implementation of projects and prepares written reporting to be submitted to the Deputy Protection Coordinator and Child Protection
    delegate for technical support.

    Education and Experience Required

  • University degree in the field of Law or Social work or any relevant field

  • 4 years’ experience in Protection/Tracing with very good knowledge of Child Protection guidelines, protocols, laws and procedures

  • Experience working with children facing armed conflict related vulnerabilities/protection concerns

  • Excellent written and spoken English, Hausa, Kanuri

  • Good computer skills: knowledge in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Represents the organization properly with different level of interlocutors.

  • Sound analytical skills, Good knowledge of the Area of Responsibility - AoR (Political, cultural and geographical)

  • Ability to keep discretion and handling confidential matters effectively.

  • Ability to communicate with children in an appropriate and child-friendly manner.
