In Ethiopia CISP is operational since May 1986, officially registered according to the national laws and regulations, operates through a close partnership and collaboration with the existing decentralized administrative bodies, such as the Regional, Zone and District (Woreda) line departments and administrative offices, in several sectors of Relief-Rehabilitation and Multi-Sector integrated development activities.

A number of partnerships and collaborations are also active with International NGO’s, Ethiopian NGOs, CBOs, Research Institutes, government development actors.

CISP is involved in development projects implemented in Ethiopia through reliability, sustainable and effective organization committed to reduce social vulnerability & building resilience

Project profile

“The project entitled "Resilience and Integration in Favour of Eritrean Refugees and Host Communities in Shire area (RIFER)" will be implemented in Mai-Ayni, Adiharush and Hitsats refugee camps and host communities around the camps.

The project aimed at to improve the living condition of Eritrean refugees and host communities through integrated environmental protection, livelihood diversification, vulnerable group protection and empowerment and access to basic services such as education WASH and health sectoral intervention.

The project is implementing in consortium with VIS, CISP, CIAI and CCM, and led by VIS for 18 months. In the internal arrangement CISP is responsible to WASH and Environmental protection activities including rehabilitation of two boreholes, construction of family latrines, tree planation, solar pump installation, etc.

Overall objective: To contribute to the reduction of irregular migration from Northern and Central Ethiopia by improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable population, including potential migrants and returnees with specific focus on youth and women.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Water expert.

  • In collaboration with the project team, responsible for the proper implementation of WASH related activities of the project entitled "Resilience and Integration in Favour of Eritrean Refugees and Host Communities in Shire area (RIFER)"
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly action plans and report of the overall water scheme
    rehabilitation, hygiene and sanitation as well as community based water system management activities as per the project plan,
  • Assess and detail the borehole rehabilitation and upgrading sites and identify the required materials/parts for all selected sites, in collaboration with the relevant water office and UNHCR,
  • Prepare bill of quantities and electro-mechanical equipment specification for the motorized schemes in collaboration with the respective government offices and in the refugee camps stakeholders,
  • Prepare detail plan and bill of quantities for the construction and rehabilitation of family latrines for refugees,
  • Design and adapt hygiene promotion activities to the local context, and monitor the hygiene and sanitation promotion activities,
  • The job holder is responsible for strengthening community based water scheme management and scheme operators in collaboration with relevant stakeholders,
  • Responsible to monitor the community based water management committees in order to consolidate sustainable scheme administration and cost recovery systems,
  • Provide technical advice to the RIFER project management team,
  • Make sure that the rehabilitated schemes are considered the proper utilization of people living with disabilities, children and women,
  • Participates in the RIFER project participatory evaluation to be carried out by UN and government partners,
  • Apply community feedback mechanism for the services delivering by the project using the standard formats of CISP,
  • Assist the participatory data collection and aggregating of RIFER project activities to facilitate learning, implementing monitoring and evaluation,
  • Provide requisition letter to the coordinator for the purchase of inputs necessary for the RIFER project implementation activities and monitor the appropriateness and delivery of the items in the sites properly,
  • Works closely different stakeholders including government offices, private sector and NGOs working in the operational areas in respect to his/her duties and responsibilities,
  • Performs other additional duties as per the directives of the project coordinator.

    Length of Contract:One year with possible extension

    Job Requirements

    Requirements:

  • University degree in Water Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydraulic Engineering or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum of 5 years for first degree or 2 years for advanced degree proven experience in relevant jobs,
  • Work experience in NGOs or similar organization is an asset/advantageous
  • Experience and knowledge of the Tigray culture, language and tradition is preferable;
