Institution of Surveyors of Kenya Membership Development Officer Jobs

The Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) is the professional organization in this

country that brings together professionals in land and real estate sector.

The professionals fall within six major disciplines of the surveying profession namely the Valuation and Estate Management Surveying; Land Surveying; Building Surveying
and Land Administration Management; Engineering Surveying and Geospatial Information Management Surveyors. Our membership currently stands at around 3200.

ISK requires a Membership Development Officer (MDO) to work with the team at the
Secretariat Team and active members, to deliver membership support and promote the benefits of ISK membership to non-members.

The post-holder will support the CEO in delivering a coherent strategy for
membership growth, including coordinating the development and delivery of support, programmes and services to members.

This role will have some specific responsibilities within the ISK but also
responsibilities across the country and therefore come travel on need basis across
Kenya may be required.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Business development - developing and marketing activities to progress and
    support aspirant members for the different routes to membership and ensuring
    effective delivery across Kenya (both in Public and Private Sector)
  • Membership development – actively seeking, gaining buy-in for and implementing initiatives to develop our membership base.
  • Membership growth – undertaking activities to promote and grow membership across Kenya.
  • Membership pipeline – undertaking regular analysis of the effectiveness of activities being delivered and making recommendations
  • Undertaking outreach activities in the Institution of Higher learning in conjunction
    with the Young Surveyors Committee.
  • Regional Outreach – coordinating with the branches on their operations including
    their outreach activities
  • Working closely with the CEO, existing members od staffs, Membership Support
    Centre (to be created) and other Membership areas to ensure a consistency of approach
  • Ensuring that ISK membership records are up to date.
  • Supporting the Young Surveyors Committee
  • Performing any other lawful duties as may be assigned.

    What are we looking for?

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, relevant experience in land related
    profession, customer service, learning and development or a related subject is
    essential.
    A professionally qualified Land Professional (or a broad knowledge of
    Land Profession) would be desirable, though not essential.
  • Previous business development experience would be advantageous.
  • You will have previous exposure to liaising with a wide audience of people, along
    with the ability to engage and relate to senior members of the Surveying and education professions. Ideally one should also be experienced at working with committees.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to turn technical material into non-technical
    outputs are essential, as is the ability to target and engage a diverse range of audiences.
  • The ability to work alone and as part of a multi-functional team, while managing
    and planning a number of simultaneous tasks effectively is key to this role.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication
    skills and the ability to prepare and deliver presentations. You will also be capable of public facing interactions on a personal and group basis.
  • Strong supporting ICT capabilities with knowledge and skills in Microsoft office
    applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) are essential.
  • There will be a need to work outside “normal office hours”, when necessary.
  • Self-driven, self-initiatives, value addition and work with minimal supervision.
