Innovations for Poverty Action IRC Immunization in Northern Uganda Jobs


The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand field management experience in an organization undertaking cutting-edge development research.

The selected candidate will work in assisting on the end line of the IRC Immunization in Northern Uganda study.

They will report directly to the Senior Research Associate.

Main tasks will include one or more of the following:

  • Assist in survey design and programming
  • Assist in data management and data cleaning
  • Assist in training of field teams

    Qualifications

    Needed qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree (completed) in Public Health, Economics, Social sciences, Public policy, or a related field
  • Strong command of STATA (skills will be tested)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player
  • Familiarity with impact evaluation methodologies, particularly with randomized controlled trials

    Preferred qualifications

  • A Master’s degree (completed or enrolled) in Public Health or related field
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Experience working or living in developing countries, particularly in East Africa

    Innovations for Poverty Action Research Associate, Community Policing Project Uganda Jobs

    Responsibilities

  • Data collection: The RA will take a lead role in designing and implementing all data collection activities. These include organizing focus group discussions, piloting survey instruments, programing surveys into hand-held devices, and training and supervising survey enumerators.
  • Data management. The RA will take a lead role in cleaning original survey data and preparing fully labeled data sets for analysis. The RA will also be responsible for assembling information from official sources (e.g. UPF and the Ugandan Bureau of Statistics) and from our local partners (e.g. data on community meeting attendance).
  • Permissions: The RA will assist with development of material for IRB approvals and research permits from the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), as needed.
  • Budgets: The RA will track expenses to ensure they align with the evaluation budget.
  • Liaison work. Together with Benjamin Kachero, the RA will act as a liaison between the research team and the UPF officers responsible for implementing the community policing program.
  • In this role the RA will be responsible for communicating with high-ranking UPF officers on a regular basis, and for passing information back and forth between UPF and the PIs as quickly and accurately as
    possible.

    Qualifications

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in economics, political science, cognitive sciences, public policy, or related field is required, Masters preferred.
  • Coursework in statistics is a big plus.
    Possess excellent management and organization skills, along with keen attention to details
    Have advanced proficiency using data management software (State or R, and ideally both).
  • Be interested in local political, economic, and social development issues.
  • Be willing to travel extensively in the field.
  • Have excellent communication skills in English.

    Innovations for Poverty Action Research Manager,
    Jobs in Uganda


  • IPA Uganda is seeking a Research Manager to oversee a growing portfolio of research projects in the country.
  • The Research Manager will have oversight over an existing portfolio of public health studies, including a maternal health program and an immunization intervention, and financial inclusion studies

    Responsibilities

  • Keep the Country Director apprised of all developments on the projects in his/her portfolio, and serve as key link between the field office, project staff, donors, and principal investigators;
  • Oversee project financial management, including creation and monitoring of project budgets, and ensure smooth integration of projects into IPA financial systems;

    Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a quantitative social science, such as economics, statistics, public policy, public health or education policy
  • At least 2 years of successful research experience, preferably in a developing country
  • Experience supervising data collection, teams of field workers, survey design and implementation and data management.
  • Background in randomized control trials is strongly preferred
