MoTIV is East Africa’s largest makerspace, we operate as a community-led factory and training facility. We want to help both the cottage and localised industries of Uganda grow, by supporting them as an industry incubation service, offering training, product development & complimentary production capacity. MoTIV Academy is the link between the growing Kampala production facility and any individual in the MoTIV Tribe interested in growing their production skills.

Your Role

Systems Engineer will be the leading role facilitating an NFC card system throughout MoTIV makerspaces.

The system will be employed within two initial Makerspace facilities at the factory site in Kampala. Moving forward the NFC card system will be deployed across the entire nation as MoTIV establishes sites across regional nodes.

The successful candidate will be working with a licensed makerspace management software, with the ability to customize the software architecture for MoTIV’s evolving needs. To complete this task a strong understanding of both electrical circuitry and back-end development is required.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is flexible and adaptive towards whatever is required of them at MoTIV.

The successful candidate must be a self started and able to bring tasks to completion independently when possible. Upon entry you will be expected to:

• Completed installation of NFC bridges to their associated makerspace hardware

•

Troubleshoot electrical circuitry failures during and after installation

• Debugging user and administration software

• Regular updates to the software once installed

• Toolbox recommendations to fulfil this role

• Generating reports from compiled membership data

Required Skill Sets

Hardware

• Arduino prototyping/ Raspberry Pi

• Electrical Circuitry/ Engineering

Software:

• Computer engineering

• Python

• C++ language

• Javascript (essential)

• Databases Management

• Back-End Development

• Code editing (Microsoft Visual Studio, Sublime Text, Atom, NetBeans, etc…)

• Relationship Management – substantial experience working with external suppliers and
ongoing stakeholders

• Project Management – experience of implementing and refining a strategic project or pilot programmes; strong planning and programme management skills

• Self Starter – Proven ability to actively pursue and deliver on personal responsibilities without the requirement of rigid management
