Infectious Diseases Institute Accounts Assistant – Core Laboratory Jobs in UgandaJob Summary;
The Accounts Assistant is responsible for timely and accurate processing of
transactions; accounts payable management; classifying, recording and reconciling
transactions in NAV Microsoft Dynamics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial processesAssist the Accountant to certify that payments are processed on time.
Complete weekly journals for posting.
File statutory returns on time.
Verify the accuracy and authenticity of account-abilities.
Identify appropriate general ledger codes for expensive account-abilities in NAV. Correctly apportion approved shared costs to different projects.
Assist the Accountant in the preparation of monthly bank and/or mobile money
Reconcile accounts payable. Obtains vendor statements and compares with NAV
transactions, identifies errors and passes journal entries for correction.
Assist in the issuing and receiving of inventory and completing inventory journals.
Perform periodic asset verification, cash counts and stock counts at IDI and/or
Identify internal controls that require improvement and suggest appropriate policy and procedure modifications for improved internal control.
Certify that all financial systems provide adequate audit trail and documentation.
Certify that all documents are archived and maintained in a safe and secure manner for the time periods specified by IDI’s policies.
Assist the Accountant in obtaining support documents and preparing the different accounts for audit review.
Certify that all paperwork is properly archived at the end of each audit.
Assist in making orders for supplies
Take a lead in managing inventory and stores for the Laboratory
Receive and store supplied items and equipment
Verify and participate in monthly inventory counts and reconciliations.
Maintain administrative documentation in relation to finance and inventory management for the Lab.

Required Qualifications skills and Attributes
A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting/Business Administration
Work experience in a Laboratory/clinic/hospital is an added advantage
At least level I of any Accounting professional course
Practical knowledge in any Accounting package preferably NAV MS Dynamics is
an added advantage
At least two years’ work experience in a relevant field
Ability to work under minimum supervision and within tight deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good problem solving and interpersonal skills
Good team player
Proficiency in the use of computers especially Excel Spreadsheets and Word
