Indepth Research Services Capacity Building and Research Manager Jobs in Kenya


Job Responsibilities

  • Liaise with national and international organisations that have identified training and support needs.
  • Identify qualified and experienced trainers (facilitators).
  • Support the design and delivery of training programmes.
  • When appropriate initiate analysis of training needs, negotiate contracts, process the evaluation forms, and carry out necessary follow-up work.
  • Support the Training and Capacity Building team in delivering a programme at the national and international levels including the development and management of reporting and planning systems.
  • Main responsibilities in training
  • Take the lead on coordinating national and international capacity building programmes, coordinating the training of staff from organisations.
  • Share expertise on behalf of Indepth Research Services Ltd.
  • Organising the logistics of internal and external IRES training events, arranging suitable venues, organising catering, organising publicity and delegates bookings, answering delegate queries, and monitor attendance.
  • Carry out training needs analysis in order to identify training and other capacity building requirements from NGO, public organisations, and development groups.
  • Discuss with the identified organisations on a set of recommended interventions that will develop their staff’s skills and capacity.
  • Manage the production of training programmes and materials for training, seminars and conferences, including assisting IRES trainers in development of materials, for example, research and design materials for training, seminars and conferences.
  • Preparation of grant applications and the promotion of IRES capacity building events in order to generate income.
  • Ensure procedure and policy is followed with all training requests, process, record, and advice staff accordingly.
  • Establish, maintain and regularly update the IRES database of national contacts and expand to regional and international contacts as appropriate.
  • Maintain a regular program of external events and Network training and development workshops.
  • Liaise with external training institutions and providers to form partnerships and networks.
  • Plan and deliver training related Network events (Online and offline), including planning, consulting and communicating effectively with Network members on an ongoing basis.
  • Plan and design programmes for international as well as National workshops, and seminars.
  • Maintain national data collation systems and gather data in reports on services provided by the IRES team for evaluation, planning and fiscal reporting purposes.
  • Feed the information collated during capacity
    building interventions into the strategic planning cycle of the organisation.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of capacity building interventions through feedback from participants and managers, and where applicable, measure the impact of the interventions through various research methods.
  • Design, coordinate and manage appropriate internship programmes to support the work of the IRES as needed.
  • Establish and maintain an electronic filing system to monitor training provision, maintaining new and archiving old training materials.

    Knowledge / Qualifications

  • Bachelors in statistics, Masters in Statistics, Agriculture economics, biostatistics, epidemiology or a related area.
  • A PhD in any of the above areas is an added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

    Experience

  • More than 10 years experience in a relevant field.

    Skills and Abilities

  • M&E, statistical analysis and modelling, knowledge of economic development, agriculture and health among other areas.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of public sector organisations.
  • Strong project coordination skills.
  • Strong writing, editing and formatting skills, ability to ensure all documents and training materials are designed to the IRES quality standards.
  • Ability to collect and monitor data and generate relevant and accurate reports for a range of audiences.
  • Able to develop and sustain good working relationships internally and externally and to be an effective and professional representative of IRES at local and national forums.
  • Working effectively as part of a team, sharing information and consulting when appropriate.
  • Extensive knowledge and confidence in working with Microsoft programmes, including Word and Excel.
  • Able to self-motivate and manage time effectively.
  • Organising the logistics for complex training and/or capacity building events.
