I&M Bank Associate – Trade Finance Jobs in Kenya;The Associate – Trade Finance will process trade finance instruments, provide customer support, and ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements. The role involves handling Letters of Credit, guarantees, collections, and foreign cheques while maintaining strong client relationships and safeguarding the bank’s exposure.

Key Responsibilities

Processing of Trade Finance Instruments (60%)

  • Review instructions to ensure validity and compliance with bank and international trade guidelines.

  • Conduct compliance and due diligence checks (goods, countries, sanctions).

  • Liaise with Relationship Managers, Credit, Legal, and Treasury to facilitate transactions.

  • Draft, initiate, and amend Letters of Credit (Export, Import, back‑to‑back).

  • Draft, initiate, and amend guarantees (Bid Bonds, Performance, Payment) and Standby LCs.

  • Process documentary collections (Import, Export, Avalization).

  • Handle outward and inward foreign cheques, including compliance checks and payments.

  • Process Supply Chain Finance instructions and bills discounting.

  • Lodge and accept bills, relay acceptance to correspondent banks, and ensure timely payments.

    Customer Care (30%)

  • Act as point of reference for trade finance enquiries internally and externally.

  • Correspond with counterparty banks and respond to queries.

  • Confirm guarantees issued to government bodies and corporates.

  • Prepare reports of outstanding liabilities for internal
    and external stakeholders.

    Audit & Compliance (10%)

  • Monitor Nostro statements and reconcile trade‑related items.

  • Identify compliance risks/AML/sanctions issues and escalate.

  • Report risk events within defined timeframes.

  • Safeguard client shipping documents and legal instruments.

  • Review outstanding liabilities weekly and notify stakeholders.

  • Notify customers and correspondent banks of overdue payments.

  • Print and call back daily journals.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Banking, or related field.

    Experience & Competencies

  • Relevant experience in trade finance operations.

  • Strong knowledge of Letters of Credit, guarantees, and collections.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to detail and compliance awareness.
