The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Associate to assist in research activities that will involve field implementation activities, data management, analysis and report writing.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock.

It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of field activities.
  • Testing field tools and training enumerators and stakeholders on the tools.
  • Represent and help manage stakeholder relationships that improve the ability of the team to achieve the agreed outputs and outcomes by facilitating community entry while implementing field activities.
  • Support project monitoring activities
  • Assist with data management, data analysis and report writing.
  • Support preparation of regular reports on project field activities.
  • Assist with the development of budgets and responsible for reporting utilization of the financial resources for the specific research activities.

    Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in field activities and supervision of field staff.
  • Experience implementing projects or data collection exercises related to health and/or nutrition.
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaborative development projects involving multiple partners in health and livestock sector.
  • Knowledge in program implementation and monitoring & evaluation
  • Good interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills especially to diverse audience and targets
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and foster teamwork
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to take initiatives
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position; based at Nairobi, Kenya and open to Kenyan nationals only.
  • The
    position is on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

    Job Level
  • This position is at job level HG 11 and open to Kenyan nationals only.
