ILRI Research Assistant – Laboratory Management Jobs in Kenya

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Assistant – Laboratory Management to support the laboratory activities part of the More Milk project that aims at investigating pathways for improved health and nutrition of children in peri-urban settings.

It specifically focuses on leveraging informal dairy markets to improve milk safety and nutrition outcomes in peri-urban Nairobi.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock.

It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Responsibilities

  • Manage all the laboratory requirements of the MoreMilk project and any additional associated projects
  • Supervise all lab activities as part of the projects and be responsible for compliance with ILRI’s Health and Safety procedures.
  • Be responsible for organizing the procurement, reception and monitoring of laboratory consumables and other equipment required for the More Milk project and associated projects
  • Conduct the laboratory analysis required by the More Milk project and associated projects
  • Be responsible for daily recording of laboratory activities, as well as data recording
  • Support the analysis of data generated in the laboratory
  • Support the work of students and fellows that may join the laboratory activities of the project(s)
  • Contribute to additional request from the program according to its skills and capacity

    Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s in food science, veterinary medicine, biotechnology or other relevant natural science degree
  • A MSc in food science, biotechnology or other relevant natural science degree
  • At least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant research experience (with laboratory components)
  • Very good interpersonal
    and communication skills

    Terms of Appointment
  • This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus.
  • It is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 2-year Fixed term contract

    Job Level
  • This position is job level 2C level 2, and ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes; pension, medical and other insurances for ILRI’s Nationally Recruited Staff.
