ILRI Post-Doctoral Fellowships Post-Doctoral Fellow, Biogeochemical Modelling/Remote Sensing in Nairobi - Kenya

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a post-doctoral research fellow with a background in biogeochemical process modelling and remote sensing to coordinate activities for (1) deriving baselines of GHG emissions from livestock systems and (2) identifying and testing of promising environmentally sound solutions to mitigate the environmental footprint of livestock systems. The research activities will be conducted in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock.

It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa.

  • To test good-bet mitigation options using process models to identify best-bet options under current climate and future conditions

  • In-depth knowledge in working
with biogeochemical process models (parameterization, application as well as code modification where necessary)
  • In-depth knowledge on GIS and remote sensing data products
  • Knowledge of agricultural production systems in developing and/or developed countries is an advantage
  • Ability to handle large datasets, data processing and statistical software such as R, SPSS, Matlab or python
  • The ability to supervise and train research assistants, students and provide necessary data quality control and assurance
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
