The International Livestock Research (ILRI) Institute seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Fellow -Farming Systems Analysis.

The incumbent will work as a farm household survey and data analysis specialist.

In a collaborative effort across different centres of the CGIAR we have developed the so-called Rural Household Multiple Indicator Survey (RHoMIS tool) to further the development of data collection tools essential to the trad off monitoring and evaluation activities of ILRI.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock.

It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world.

Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa.

Responsibilities:

  • Further improvement of the RHoMIS tool – e.g. improve the data management system, website, further develop the existing standardised/automated analysis code, develop online system for survey generation from user-friendly module selection
  • Application of RHoMIS in a range of different projects in a range of Low and Middle-Income Countries
  • Analysis of the data and report results to support targeting and evaluation of ongoing role out of technological interventions
    Further stimulation of the uptake of RHoMIS by small and medium sized iNGOs
  • Analysing the overall database that is currently being set up using RHoMIS applications across the developing world
  • Contribution to the development of new research proposals
  • Publication of the results of his/her research in peer-reviewed international journals and production of other communication and learning material.

    Requirements

  • PhD in agriculture, social sciences or environmental sciences
  • Training and/or experience in both social and biophysical sciences. Evidence of interdisciplinary, applied systems analysis desirable
  • At least 5 years professional experience
  • Extensive experience with farm household survey tools
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Track record of publishing peer-reviewed articles
  • Extensive work experience in developing countries in Africa, Asia or Latin America
    Programming knowledge of ODK and R
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English
  • Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya

    Position level:

  • Post-doctoral level.

    Duration:

  • 2 years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.
