IGAD Assistant Program Officer Jobs in Kenya

IGAD was created in 1996 to supersede the Intergovernmental Authority on Drought and Development(IGADD), which was founded in 1986. This followed the recurring and severe drought and other natural disasters between 1974 and 1984 that caused widespread famine, ecological degradation and economic hardship in the Eastern Africa region.

Although individual countries made substantial efforts to cope with the situation and received generous support from the international community, the magnitude and extent of the problem argued strongly for a regional approach to supplement national efforts.

In order to enhance coordination of resilience related information, IGAD is establishing an integrated Information Management Unit (Unit) that brings together Resilience Analysis Unit (RAU), Food Security and Nutrition Work Group (FSNWG), and Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

The Unit provides opportunity for CEWARN to contribute to and benefit from the resilience information generation in line with the expanded thematic focus of CEWARN.

Consequently, CEWARN would like to recruit and place an Assistant Program Officer within the Unit. The Officer will be primarily deployed to the Unit but will maintain regular contact with CEWARN in executing his or her duties.
