IFRC Gender and Diversity Officer Kenya Jobs

The position holder will guide the implementation of the Violence Prevention and Gender Strategies’ strategic directions relating to achieve Strategy 2020 Strategies Aims 1 and 2.

  • Raising awareness and commitment on Gender, Diversity and Violence Prevention in the International Federation and its National Societies.
  • Mainstreaming Gender, Diversity and Violence Prevention in programmes and services programme services assessment, tools, trainings, appeal, plan of actions including monitoring (VCA, CBHFA, FACT/ERU, IMPACT…)
    Providing technical support to IFRC staff in mainstreaming Gender, Diversity and Violence Prevention in programmes and services and to regional and field structures in rolling out the Gender Strategy.
  • The Officer will also work closely with other movement partners to coordinate the organisation of the side-event on Preventing and Responding to Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Natural Disasters.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a focal point for Gender and diversity with external partners and funding institutions
  • Organise and attend Gender and Diversity project coordination meetings and teleconferences
  • Improve capacity of at least five National societies to better identify the needs of the most disadvantaged and marginalised groups
  • Identify ten national societies to roll out youth and women`s group specific programming
  • Contribute to project proposal, participate in the initial data-collection and writing process
  • Coordinate the organisation of the side-event on Preventing and Responding to Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Natural Disasters.
  • The IFRC in Africa will focus on ensuring that the basic rights of disadvantaged and marginalized groups are improved and affected groups live in a safe environment in 2018 with focus on
    the following milestones.

    The officer will, therefore, support the regional office/NS is achieving the following:

  • Record desegregated data for 100% of all projects.
  • Provide expertise and tools to enable five NS to actively participate in campaigns
    aimed at prevention of gender-based violence.
  • Support the design of interventions for ten NS to address sexual and gender-based violence in disaster settings.
  • Support ten NS to undertake community interventions that will directly prevent and mitigate inter-personal and community violence.
  • In at least ten additional NS design and support the implementation of education programs that foster humanitarian values and interpersonal skills.
  • A degree in social science, gender or equality studies or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in research, research methodologies, the management of research projects
  • 1-2 years’ experience in gender and/or gender-based violence thematic

    Knowledge, skills and languages

  • Organization and coordination skills and experience
  • Experience in managing programs, including financial management and relations with donors
  • Experience working on research projects, in preference related to gender, diversity and/or gender-based violence
  • Knowledge and experience in data collection and analysis, writing skills
  • Proficiency in English
  • Fluently spoken and written English
    Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic) is preferred
