IDI Makerere Postdoctoral Research Associate Jobs in Uganda

General Summary

  • The Immunology of Meningitis (TiME) Project at the Infectious Diseases Institute Makerere University is seeking one post-doctoral researcher for a funded opportunity in the field of Immunology of Meningitis, funded by the National Institutes of Health.

  • Whereas we continue to evaluate the clinical efficacy of high dose Rifampicin among persons with Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) in the Harvest trial, the immunology of TB meningitis in particular remains challenging to understand. The Meningitis Research group is a collaborative entity including researchers from the University of Minnesota and the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University. Over the last 15 years, the group has been involved in research relating to HIV-related meningitis.

    Project Description

  • The TiME project aims to investigate if the immune response at the site of infection plays an integral part in tuberculosis meningitis (TBM) disease pathogenesis impacting sensitivity of diagnostics, disease outcomes, and treatment response. The immunology studies under this project will shed significant clinical insights into TBM and other HIV related meningitides by addressing the correlates of TBM immunity in an HIV infected population in the context of disease outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in:

  • Design of flow cytometry panels

  • Piloting and optimization of flow cytometry panels using Cerebrospinal Fluid and blood.
