ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural research for development.

Established in 1972, it is one of the 15 Centres of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks.

ICRISAT with its Headquarters located in India has regional centres and research
teams in Asia and Sub- Saharan Africa. In the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA), ICRISAT has country Ethiopia, with its regional office for ESA located in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Position

The position exists to support project communications specifically the TL III & HOPE II Projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect information, prepare content for the projects’ use and visibility.
  • Write research and impacts stories on program activities as directed by the team.
  • Assist in the documentation of program activities through print, photography and videography.
  • Disseminate information and publications through various channels.
  • Maintain an inventory of TL III and HOPE II publications on CGIAR space and ICRISAT workplace.
  • Assist in website management - publishing content such as blogs, news stories, upcoming events.
  • Assist in design of program publication materials including flyers, factsheets, newsletters, working
    papers.
  • Draft press releases, success stories and quarterly bulletins.
  • Assist in managing an online portal – regularly updating it with relevant information (news, events,
    publications) to keep the site up to date.
  • Keep an updated database of blog stories published by TL III and HOPE II team and partners in Eastern and Southern Africa.
  • Archive and share program photos, videos and presentations on relevant social media Facebook,YouTube, Instagram, Twitter.
  • Offer logistical support during TL III and HOPE II workshops, field visits and meetings.
  • Assist in any other work as may be assigned by TL III and HOPE II program management team.

    Required Academic and
    Professional Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in communication, journalism, development, or relevant field of specialization.
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in communication in a research or development field, preferably international NGO/research organizations or media houses.
  • Proficient in graphic design and editing: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro.
    Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - use of simple and clear language.
  • Good photography skills.
  • Strong capacity for data collection and analysis, as well as report writing and presentation.
  • Experience in website content management.
  • Proactive with good interpersonal skills.
  • Team player, with good understanding of role.
  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and organize workload.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision.

  • This position is remunerated on Local Terms. The appointment will be for an initial period of two (2) years, subject to a six (6) months’ probation period.
