Main Tasks and Responsibilities

• Develop an ICRHK research Strategic Plan and plan for capacity building

• Identify calls for research funding and lead in writing of successful competitive grant applications

• Invest in resource mobilization for research, also outside competitive grant applications

• Develop a portfolio of research at ICRHK covering a spectrum of activities from basic science to behavioural science, and clinical research; and from qualitative to quantitative research

• Develop research partnerships locally and globally. Identify strategic partners and initiate partnerships on research projects

• As the Principal Investigator, supervise and coordinate research activities at the organization. This includes preparing documents for submission to the research and ethics committee, preparing and maintaining project regulatory folders

• Ensure that the studies are conducted at high quality and as per the ICH-GCP guidelines (where relevant) and the organization’s standard operating procedures (SOPS)

• Lead the ongoing dissemination of scientific research findings through peer-reviewed publications and other avenues

• Leverage research opportunities within ongoing intervention projects at ICRHK

• Synthesize evidence from research and spearheading the integration of these into ongoing projects

• Mentor junior researchers at ICRHK and guide them in developing manuscripts

• Represent ICRHK in consortia or collaborative partnerships for proposal development and proposal writing

• Set-up webinars and meetings to disseminate learning from ICRHK research and projects

• Lead the ICRH-K and partners journal clubs

• Represent ICRHK in national and international conferences and
meetings

• Support the ICRHK Country Director in general management tasks as a member of the Senior
Management Team (SMT)

Specific Requirements

• Medical University degree, and a Master Degree in any field (preferably Public Health or Reproductive Health) and a completed - or initiated - PhD

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in research and project management, preferably in Kenya.

• Proof of research capacity and leadership reflected by at least three publications in peer-reviewed journals

• Shown track record in attracting competitive research grants

• Supervision of MSc/PhD to completion is an added advantage

• Good knowledge and application of research methods and international guidelines for research related to human subjects (such as ICH-GCP)

• Familiar with research-related software and statistical analysis

• Excellent communication skills in oral and written English

• Professional interest in sexual and reproductive health

• Good management skills

• Able to work independently

• Team player
