The position:

The International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology (icipe) seeks to hire a Driver/Logistics Assistant who will be a member of icipe Ethiopia office which is located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Job Purpose:

Icipe has just initiated a pool based management of field vehicles with four vehicles to start with.

Apart from handling emerging driving duties on any of the field vehicles from this pool, this position will also be responsible in the collection and systematic archiving of vehicle movement data needed for cost analysis and attribution of the costs to various projects that utilized vehicles services.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes driving assignments given by the Programme Management Officer (PMO) and other professional staff of the project;
  • Operates, maintains and cleans assigned vehicles with care and reports any damage immediately to the PMO;
  • Records and maintains the log-book for all icipe vehicles;
  • Responsible for all tools, equipment and spare parts of assigned vehicles;
  • Responsible for checking all the assigned vehicles of the project every morning.
  • Follow-up with PMO the arrangement for necessary vehicle repair and maintenance in order to restore service and operation schedules;
  • Assists professional staff, Research Assistants and Associates in the field work;
  • Keeps an inventory of equipment used by enumerators and field assistants while in the
    field;
  • Be responsible for payment of per diems and travel expenses in the field to authorized travelers of the project, if required and asked by the PMO and Project Leader;
  • Keep icipe vehicle movement data for the financial analysis;
  • Assists in handling of office duties as assigned and requested by PMO and Project Leader;
  • Regularly acquits and clears all cash advances for field vehicle movements and travel expenses;
  • Assists the project manager and field assistants in the follow up and support of on-going activities of the EIF Honey project;
  • Performs other project related procurement and liaising duties assigned by the PMO.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education:

  • High school completed or Preparatory Certificate level, with additional technical training in Auto mechanics and related fields.

    Experience:

  • At least two years of relevant experience in an international organization or NGO.

    Skills:

  • Valid driving license to operate field vehicles
  • Basic computer knowledge is essential.
  • Good working knowledge of written and spoken English essential
  • Good command of a third language would be an advantage
  • Additional technical training related to duties of this position would also be an advantage
  • Willingness to work after office hours and/or holidays if required
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good inter-personal relationship

    Duty Station:

  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

    Position level: 1C.

    Minimum Base salary:

  • Birr 8,409 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)

    Terms of appointment:

  • Initial appointment is for three years renewable appointment based on performance and funding availability.
