ICFJ Emergency Reporting Grants to Support Independent Journalists for Guatemalans

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in collaboration with the newly created Red Centroamericana de Periodistas, is announcing a new initiative to support independent journalism that is covering the political crisis in Guatemala.

Emergency assistance includes different types of journalistic training and financial support with Emergency Reporting Grants.

The grants will help cover the salaries and expenses of journalists reporting on the country's democratic crisis. The grants will be awarded to the journalists and media with the best proposals. A team from ICFJ and the Central American Network of Journalists will work on the selection process. Selected teams will have an editor who would provide editorial support.

A strong proposal should focus on coverage of the political crisis and issues affecting democracy, such as the efforts of the political elite to affect the peaceful transition of power, the militarization of the judicial system, the connections between the political and economic elite connected to corruption, and the people behind the attacks against journalists, judges, and human rights activists.
