Human Rights Watch Associate, Media Jobs in Kenya


Human Rights Watch Associate, Media Jobs in Kenya;The Associate will provide administrative and research assistance to HRW’s regional media team. The role supports strategic outreach with earned media worldwide, ensuring HRW’s research and advocacy inform global debates, reach decision‑makers, and drive accountability for human rights abuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support including budgets, travel, and scheduling.

  • Audit and maintain media lists across traditional and emerging platforms.

  • Handle queries from journalists and connect them with relevant staff.

  • Track and relay information between regional media teams and communications.

  • Liaise with HRW press products pipeline and maintain publishing schedules.

  • Compile and write media roundups and analyses when needed.

  • Help organize events, meetings, and news conferences across time zones.

  • Assist with desk research tasks and provide support as required.

  • Maintain communication among HRW offices, staff, and external partners.

    Qualifications

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, social sciences, international relations, or related field (or equivalent experience).

    Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience.

    Skills & Knowledge

  • Prior
    office/administration experience with strong organizational skills.

  • Initiative, follow‑through, and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages desirable.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with staff and partners.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.

  • Proofreading experience desirable.

  • Understanding of news cycles and international media outlets preferred.

  • Commitment to human rights and international issues highly desirable
