Horizont3000 Coaching on Risk Management Jobs in Kenya


  • This coaching is part of HORIZONT3000’s knowledge management program KNOWHOW3000 in 2021 (https://knowhow3000.org/en/km/about-km/ and https://www.horizont3000.at/en/). This knowledge building program aims at increasing capacities of partner organisations in organisational development, strategic alignment and sustainability.

  • Risk management is a relevant part of this as it considers both (potential) internal challenges to organisations’ success as well as external risks such as the political environment in which organisations operate. Risk management is a strategic process that should be driven by the management of an organisation, streamlined in its operations and applied at all levels. It is not about the elimination of risks but rather about their identification and management or mitigation. If done strategically, this reduces surprises, prevents shocks and enhances operational efficiency as resources can be diverted to manage the most potent risks (a case in point is the shock of the current COVID-19 pandemic).

  • This coaching will be individualised for three of HORIZONT3000’s partner organisations in East Africa who have applied for the coaching in a competitive bid amongst all organisations in HORIZONT3000’s wider East African network. The coaching will be participatory and the consultant will engage with top management work groups set up by each organisation.

    Coaching Participants

  • The target group of the coaching are three partner organisations of HORIZONT3000 and her member organisation. These include civil society and church-based organisations active in the fields of human rights and child protection, or rural development.

    Topics

  • The coaching is meant to be customised to the needs of each selected organisation.

  • It will introduce each organisation to adequate and feasible tools of risk management in line with their existing and potential resources.

  • The coaching will also guide the organisations in the application of this knowledge.

  • The coaching should include an introductory phase at each organisation where participants update their knowledge on tools of risk analysis such as, but not limited to, SWOT analysis, root cause analysis, risk register and impact matrix.

  • Partners learn how to identify and analyse risks, they learn how to create a risk matrix and a risk management strategy.

  • Depending on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the concept should allow for this first phase to be done in online sessions.

  • After this knowledge building phase, the implementation phase of the coaching starts.

  • It is based on the needs of the organisations and will include the creation of plans/ road maps for implementation.

  • The consultant will then guide the organisations along the first steps of implementing a risk management system.

    Objective of the Coaching

    The coaching has the following objectives:

  • Partners are conversant with tools and methods of risk management as well as its relevance in prudent organisational and project cycle management.

  • Partners are able to identify risks and to create a risk
    matrix.

  • Partners have designed a risk management strategy.

  • Partners have a road map for implementation of their risk management strategy.

  • Partners have started implementation of their risk management strategy.

    Intended Outcomes of the Coaching

  • At the end of the coaching, the organisations have expanded their knowledge on risk management, which will be demonstrated by the consultant through pre- and post-coaching surveys.

  • The coaching is expected to result in partners having in place a risk matrix and having started implementation of a risk management system along a road map developed together with the consultant.

  • The full implementation (progress and success) of the road map will be monitored over several months by HORIZONT3000 (not part of the consultant’s assignment).

    Timeframe & Location

  • Coaching Duration: 9 days per organisation over a period of 4 months (i.e. a total of 27 coaching days)

  • Period: Between February and May 2021

  • Locations: Nebbi, Uganda and/or Nairobi, Kenya (No international travels supported)

    Consultant Profile

  • Only in-country consultant(s)! Should you apply for both locations, kindly present in-country consultants for both Uganda and Kenya

  • The consultant must have proven expertise on risk management as well as a strong coaching background with proven experience in risk management consultancies

  • It is considered an added advantage to have experience in coaching and working in East Africa and with East African organizations

  • The consultant must be fluent in English as coaching language will be in English.

    How to apply

    Interested consultants are requested to submit a comprehensive expression of interest by 11.09.2020, including:

  • concepts for the coaching including details on content and methodology for both online and offline sessions (Online sessions only in case the COVID-19 regulations do not allow for physical meetings/workshops in 2021)

  • Concept for pre- and post-coaching assessment

  • a timeframe outlining number of days of preparation, actual coaching sessions conducted (indicate preferred period) and post-processing

  • a budget that clearly states the daily rate (incl. travel costs and local taxes) – total cost should cover coaching sessions, preparation and documentation. Please note: HORIZONT3000 does not compensate for travel costs as these have to be included in the daily rate. All taxes applicable in the respective country of the consultancy have to be clearly indicated in the budget.

  • a CV and relevant references in risk management (trainings, projects, or consultancies)
