Job Description

Hope for Korah (HFK) is a non-profit charity registered in British Columbia, Canada under BN #856425780BC0001. And currently it is registered as a foreign organization with certificate no 4462 by the agency for civil society organizations of Ethiopia in 23rd September, 2019.

The vision of Hope for Korah (HFK) is to support relief and development work that acts towards breaking the cycle of poverty for those living in urban settings in Ethiopia. Hope for Korah seeks to strengthen families to prevent them from disintegrating and breaking apart due to the harsh realities of extreme poverty. Our desire is to keep families healthy and together.

The organization executes its planned activities to achieve its goal through employing well equipped, passionate and experienced social workers who have the talent to work with women and their family.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Employee

  • Conduct assessments for the new entry families recruitment based on the provided format and contributing ones insight on the decision makes on each of the candidates

  • Ability to come alongside & empower impoverished individuals, providing psychosocial support and counseling as needed

  • Assist with the administration of monthly provisions such as groceries, Teff & rent

  • Help individuals identify & address any challenges throughout this process, finding creative solutions to ensure that sustainable change occurs

  • Ensure that all work conducted with each beneficiary maintains & respects that beneficiary’s needs, rights & integrity

  • Knowledge of facilitation, mediation, conflict management techniques & problem solving skills.

  • Ability to independently plan, organize & prioritize the workload while also being open & flexible to change.

  • Produce regular reports to the Socio-Economic Empowerment Officer on the success
    and challenges faced by beneficiary families

  • Assess and assist beneficiary families in identifying areas of concern in their emotional, physical, social and spiritual health & providing mitigation plans to address challenges

  • Survey the needs of beneficiaries to develop & deliver relevant life skills training in key areas (i.e. money management, self-confidence, assertiveness, marketing, conflict resolution, etc.)

  • Actively participate in team meetings and discussions to provide insight on areas of concern or success

  • Conduct assessments, home visits, and regular follow up with families’ bases on the given schedule

  • Perform any other relevant tasks as directed

    Job Requirements

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Developmental Studies and related field.

  • Three years related work experience

  • Proficiency in both English and Amharic is mandatory

    Skills, Attitudes and Attributes

  • Good Communication and Interpersonal skills

  • Ability to make logical and timely decisions
    Counseling skill

  • Ability to compile case assessment reports

  • Women leadership skills
