HJF Medical Research International Scientific Lead Jobs in Kenya


Introduction

HJFMRI has a strong global presence (with a particular emphasis in Africa and Asia), where it provides technical and professional support services for laboratory, field research and patient care programs that are closely tied to the DoD, NIH, and the CDC. The HJFMRI International Scientific Lead is expected to provide strategic leadership and direction to ensure HJFMRI’s infectious disease research programs in the primary areas of HIV-AIDS, malaria, influenza, tuberculosis, enterics, and emerging zoonotic diseases meet the technical and reporting requirements of sponsor agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously drives the strategic direction and planning process for the HJFMRI programs in the area in coordination with program leads at the sites, at program stateside offices and HQ
    HJFMRI/HJF.
  • Represents HJFMRI in all scientific matters pertaining to implementation with partners, including interactions with the most senior levels representatives of these institutions.
  • Fosters and cultivates high-value relationships with all relevant local authorities (Ministry of Health,
    local research institutions, other partners and the military) at all levels.
  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships and alliances with the other USG partners and funders, including private sector partnerships
  • Strongly advocates on behalf of the programs and other national/international partners.
  • Increases positive visibility of the programs through effective scientific representation at high-level visits with DOD, CDC, USAID, PEPFAR, and the respective host-country’s Ministry of Health.
  • Works with HQ Research Initiatives Office in support of the proposal process. Identifies new international business opportunities and provides feedback on pros and cons of pursuing.
  • Develops and maintains a broad, consistent and constructive engagement with HJF/HJFMRI HQ to foster a sense of shared community, mutual trust and transparency.
  • Works with administrative, technical and programmatic leads.

    Qualifications

  • : Advanced degree: Masters (MPH, MHA, etc.) with Doctorate (PhD, MD) in public health or relevant field.
  • Minimum 6-10 years of senior level experience in program development,
    implementation, and management of research or medical programs experience.
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully managing relationships with governments, donors, and other partners in a complex political environment and in resource-limited settings.
  • Knowledge of infectious diseases, global public health challenges and proven strategies to positively impact the healthcare infrastructure in developing nations preferred.

    HJF Medical Research International Program Manager III/Program Director Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Facilitates daily program operations triage support and provides the overarching strategies
    that are essential to the successful establishment and sustainment of local sites for the Cooperative Agreement and other Collaborations.
  • Coordinates with CDC and KEMRI leadership to ensure the program properly and
    effectively meets the sponsors’ requirements/expectations under the Cooperative
    Agreement and other Collaborations.
  • Responsible for the development and coordination of the HJFMRI's service capabilities for the research programs and other collaborations that require, local and regional sites to employ host country nationals, and assuring fiduciary responsibility.
  • Facilitates information flow between program members, scientific directors, HJFMRI, and HJF's corporate office.
  • Coordinates the decision-making process between all program participants.
  • Directs, coordinates, and conducts host country personnel actions and furnishes guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Demonstrates diplomacy when interacting with all internal and external staff.
  • Supervises program staff members and authorizes hiring actions.

    Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of organizational objectives;
  • knowledge of the federal acquisition process; experience in working or living internationally;
  • Bachelors Degree in international related fields or business.
  • 6 to 10 years related experience.

    HJF Medical Research International Program Manager Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • The PM will support any program within Kenya or the Region when requested.
  • The PM will serve as a point of contact for any of the program stakeholders when
    requested by the supervisors.
  • The PM must be proficient in all Program Management functions and must be familiar
    with all HJFMRI managed activities in Kenya and the region.
  • The PM will oversee budgets to ensure fiscal compliance.
  • Assists with the preparation of requests for contract/grant actions and proposals.
  • When requested, review and approve subcontractor invoices and technical reports for accuracy
  • Review and ensure all program deliverables are accurate and submitted timely.
  • When requested, prepare timely reports in accordance with program requirements.
  • The PM is required to manage equipment, including maintenance and final
    disposition, and other program assets when requested.
  • The PM is required to travel for extended periods when requested.
  • The PM is required to submitted detailed trip reports to all relevant stakeholders
  • The PM must work very closely with all programs, the relevant departments at HQ
  • Coordinates and approves the initiation and processing of purchase orders, supply
    sources, work orders and maintenance and renovation requests.
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned by the Contracts and Grants Manager at
    the HJFMRI Regional Office.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, public health or related field
  • 3-5 years Program Management experience
  • Experience managing activities funded by the US Government is required
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications – Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel is required.
  • No criminal record.

    HJF Medical Research International Contracts and Grants Officer Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Assist the department in all contracts/subcontracts/grants and sub-awards related functions.
  • By working closely with the various programs and under the supervision of the
    supervisor, ensure compliance by creating a project expense tracker.
  • Assist the department in RFP, RFQ and RFI processes.
  • Assist the department in researching and developing adequate sources of supply and
    services and evaluate the financial stability of potential suppliers/collaborators.
  • Assist in the review of new contracts, contract renewals and associated documents;
    provide fact-based recommendations to internal stakeholders for constructing the best
    overall strategic buy decisions.
  • Verify subcontractor’s status in System for Award Management (SAM) to ensure
    subcontractor is in good standing.
  • Ensure accurate records of all the sub agreements are maintained to comply with audit
    requirements.
  • Coordinate audit requests and work with the auditors to address any audit related questions.
  • Assist in obtaining and maintaining interim progress reports from the
    partners/collaborators

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or related field.
  • CPA-K, ACCA or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years program and/or contract management experience.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications – Proficiency in
    advanced Microsoft Excel is required.
