adversely affected by disasters and conflict. HIJRA with funding from the UNHCR plans to implement a Protection Program for refugees in Kyangwali settlement (Hoima district) and is now looking for qualified and competent persons to fill the position of Communications Officer.

HIJRA Communications Officer Jobs Opportunities in Uganda

Job Summary:

HIJRA is looking for a creative thinker with social media experience and excellent people skills to join our media team. He/She will be leading on communications as well as responding to comments and queries from the public as well as being responsible for the public relations aspect within an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of HIJRA communications strategy to promote and publicize the knowledge gathered by the program.
  • Draft and produce regular editorial support to the development of articles, blogs, reports,
    technical briefs, newsletters, and other publications.
  • Write communications pieces (success stories, articles, blog posts, etc.) and create project presentations.
  • Lead in event design, organization, and facilitation.
  • Research and identify opportunities for the project to employ new media formats and
    dissemination channels (podcasts, blogging, webcasts, etc.).
  • Ensure information on the website is accurate and up to date, and supports the work of the organization
  • Use social media applications creatively, including managing the organization’s Facebook,
    Twitter and blog activity
  • Produce publicity and promotional materials for events and engagement activities and other
    external publications
  • Attend meetings and events when needed

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, International Development, Journalism,
    Communications, Marketing or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience with 1 years’ experience working directly in
    communications.
  • Knowledge of principles, theories and methods of communications, public relations, and journalism.
  • Articulate and professional in public speaking situations
  • Demonstrated research, writing and editing experience for both print and web.
  • Proficiency with website content management and the use of social media required.
  • Familiarity with graphic design, printing and publishing processes required.
  • Understanding of evolving communications technologies and measurements of
    communications effectiveness;
  • Experience with issue management and public advocacy;
  • Initiative to solve problems with energy and a positive attitude;
  • Ability to translate and convey sophisticated, sometimes sensitive, information to target audiences;
  • Ability to translate complex, strategic content into engaging, easy-to-understand messages that create commitment to the organization and its goals;
  • Experience with best communication practices with Social Media and new technologies;
  • Experience with multi-media (audio, video, publications, computer based vehicles etc) and
    understanding of SharePoint, InfoPath, digital signage and other internal communications
    vehicles as plus;

    HIJRA Finance and Administration Officer Jobs Opportunities in Uganda

    Job Summary:

    The Finance and Administration Officer will be providing financial and administrative related support to HIJRA Uganda.

    Responsibilities

  • Monitor expenditure of various projects and ensure timely submission of financial reports.
  • Constantly review financial requirements and forecasting of expenditures.
  • Establish monthly cash requirements for the office and request timely replenishments from the Regional Office.
  • Liaise and keep close contacts with the local banks, manage all accounts and observe local foreign control regulations.
  • Manage funds and financial assets of the organization Office.
  • Manage the delivery of monthly reports and feedback on budget accounts.
  • Co-ordinate the budget preparation and financial plans and conduct budget reviews
  • Coordinate and manage the monitoring and approval of budgets versus expenses and ensure
    accurate accounting, authorisation and internal control procedures.
  • Manage and oversee the cash management process to ensure its safeguarding and proper
    disbursement.
  • Manage and review the monthly close of the accounts and Monitor cash flows
  • Prepare the monthly financial results to ensure effective communication of results to the management and provide the management with regular financial analysis on numerous
    financial issues.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Finance and Administration from a reputable
    organization.
  • Management and accounting for INGO.
  • Demonstrated high sense of personal integrity
  • Experience in working with donors.
  • Must have knowledge of the management of payroll, taxes, audits and Projects Financial
    Management.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with accounting software and well versed with other computer applications.

    HIJRA Legal Assistant Jobs Opportunities in Uganda

    Job Summary:

    The Legal Assistant provides specific legal assistance to the assigned Legal officer and office in the provision of direct legal support to victims of forced migration and in carrying out policy advocacy on forced migration.

    Responsibilities

  • In relation to Legal protection, ensuring the protection of populations of concern is met through the application of the relevant UN/UNHCR protection standards and IASC principles
  • Ensuring that protection incidents are immediately identified and addressed.
  • Ensure the people of concern have access to legal and fair hearing in court through court follow ups, prison monitoring etc.
  • Sensitize the Community and Local authorities on Refugee law and Human Rights relating to refugees and others persons of concern to UNHCR, in order to ensure that national legislation is in compliance with International Legal Standards.
  • Analytical reports of Legal protection related trends and issues are produced on a monthly and ad hoc basis
  • Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on Legal protection related issues
  • Actively promote International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy,
    standards and codes of conduct
  • Assists in dealing with police concerning asylum-seekers and refugees to provide them
    protection to remain safely in country of asylum.

    QualificationS

  • A degree in Law (with specialization in criminal or human rights or any other related
    comparable line of specialization in law)
  • At least 2 years of work experience in the same field of development and humanitarian work
    and NGOs’.
  • Ability to produce high-quality legal documentation.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills and the ability to interact with a number of different partners and contacts, including governmental authorities, UNHCR, victims and their families etc.
  • Strong communication and mediation skills
  • Strong judgments skills are also a necessity
  • Ability to act ethically and make moral decisions
  • Sociable and open minded
