HIAS Learning Study LGBT Consultant Jobs in Kenya

While there is an ever-growing movement by LGBTQ Kenyans demanding their rights and the chance to enjoy those rights, significant levels of homophobia and transphobia exist. HIAS’s work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ)1 refugees began in Nairobi in 2009 to support those eligible for resettlement to the US and other safe countries around the world. More recently, HIAS’ work has expanded to working with the broader LGBTQ rights movement in Kenya, alongside efforts to empower and build the skills of LGBTQ refugees.

After Uganda passed the 2014 Anti-Homosexuality Act, over 500 LGBTQ Ugandans fled into neighboring Kenya to avoid persecution, gender-based violence, sexual torture, blackmail and possible death.
