Context of the Mission:

  • HI has been implementing development and humanitarian interventions in Ethiopia since 1986.

  • HI was working in the area of physical rehabilitation, inclusive education, mine risk education, community based rehabilitation, HIV and AIDS, capacity building of local associations of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), inclusive sexual reproductive health, protection and recently on COVID 19 response.

  • HI has also been implementing protection projects for Internally Displaced Persons and South Suddenness Refugees.

  • Currently, HI is implementing an inclusive protection projects in Somali region, Liben Zone (Filtu and Deka Suftu districts) and Benshangul Gumuz region, Kamashi zone as well as integrated multi-sectoral lifesaving response to conflict and climate induced affected IDPs in Somali, Oromia, Southern Nation Nationalities People (SNNP) regions, Benshangul Gumuz region, Kamashi zone and Gambela refugee camp.

  • HI promotes an inclusive approach by focusing on access to services for all whenever possible rather than developing specific actions for people with disabilities. HI works not only with people with disabilities and other vulnerable populations, but also with their families, their communities, and the society.

  • HI Ethiopia also signed strategic partnership agreement with different International NGOs with commitment to support their programs are inclusive humanitarian action.

    Description of the Position:

  • Under the responsibility of the Program Director and in collaboration with the Operations Manager and the HQ Protection and MHPSS Technical Specialists, the Protection and Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Field Technical Specialist will contribute to the implementation of the mandate and the 10-year strategy of Humanity & Inclusion in Ethiopia.

  • He/she will ensure optimal quality and impact of the projects implemented in the country, through a delegation system with appropriate control mechanisms.

  • He/she will share with all HI managers the responsibility of a sound successful functioning of the global organization, through paradigm changes.

    He/she will be responsible for the following:

  • Support the program to develop its strategy, especially with regard to protection and MHPSS interventions and contributing more widely to HI Health and Protection strategy in the country

  • Provide technical support and regular follow-up (quality assurance) of the HI Protection and MHPSS activities in the country (direct service provision as well as health system strengthening activities)

  • Oversee the development and adaptation of technical material aiming to build the capacity of the HI staff and partners, through face to face
    or remote trainings and coaching

  • Develop the capacity of country Protection/MHPSS Field Technical Officer to Field Technical Specialist

  • Coordinate with other MHPSS and Protection actors and represent HI internally and externally, whenever necessary

    Profile Thought:

  • you hold an advanced University Degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in social work, mental health, psychology or related fields from a recognized University or academic Institute

  • you have at least 4 years of field professional experience in the field of Protection and MHPSS with INGOS

  • you have experience of training and providing technical supervision in the field of Protection and MHPSS with NGOs and CSOs, in protracted crisis as well as in development contexts

  • you have experience working with and strengthening public health services and systems (from Ministries to decentralized services)

  • you have a sound technical understanding of the protection, rehabilitation, inclusive humanitarian action issues

  • you have experience participating in humanitarian coordination mechanisms especially Protection/Health Clusters

  • Having experience working with GBV survivors is an asset

  • Having previous experience in the country/region is a strong asset

  • you comply to GBV guiding principles and survivor centered approaches

  • you comply to guiding principles working with children

  • you have a very high level of motivation and proactivity

  • you like working as part of a team/network

  • you show empathy, and resilience to stress and uncertainty

  • you have the ability to work under high pressure (tensed and volatile context with strict security measures) and without constant supervision

    Specificities of the Position:

  • Addis Ababa is stable and calm city despite the country is in serious war between Federal Government and TDF/TPLF.

  • In the city however, there is a need to be vigilant,to respect security protocols and to avoid movements and activities in specific areas.
