The job holder will be responsible for the Health Business’ policy formulation and strategy implementation, successful management of the operations processes in underwriting and
claims, acquisition and retention of health business based on set annual targets, guidance in the development of new products and the overall management of the sales team.

Responsibilities:


Managerial

  • Develop policies and processes for the underwriting and claims that guide the
    delivery of effective and efficient customer service
  • Coordinate and maintain expeditious business performance procedures geared to
    delivering a profitable health business
  • Lead the department in the acquisition of new business directly or through
    intermediaries as per agreed production targets
  • Gather market intelligence to inform strategy
  • Manage relationships with clients, intermediaries and service providers to ensure
    agreed service level agreements are achieved and goodwill with all stakeholders is
    maintained
  • Direct the development of the underwriting strategy for the Health Business and the
    corresponding implementation plans to ensure the underwriting process supports
    the achievement of Heritage’s health business strategy
  • Ensure effective implementation of the underwriting philosophy, strategy, process
    and guidelines for the Health Insurance Business to ensure profitability and
    achievement of the set loss ratio targets
  • Provide guidance in the development of new products in liaison with the Health
    Business and Actuarial teams
  • Participate in product design and development
  • Plan and direct recruitment, training, performance evaluation and career
    development to develop, retain and motivate the Health Business sales team.
  • Manage staff and resources and ensure that the overall departmental goals are attained
  • Monitor the trends in the claims submitted for analysis against those paid in order to
    develop a strategy that advises the business on how to organize claims management
  • Develop and implement a records management plan for claims management including automation
  • Develop and maintain an efficient and effective health provider network that delivers
    access to a healthcare service that is affordable and appropriate
  • Conduct a regular review of the claims process to enhance profitability as well as
    efficiency and effectiveness in the claims management process
  • Ensure that the
    medical contact center is effectively managed in a professional,
    accurate and timely manner, including prompt and efficient handling of all calls outside the Contact Centre hours.
  • In liaison with internal and external medics, handle and guide on complicated clinical cases including local and international evacuations

    Operational

  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of competitive quotations to prospective
    clients, brokers and agents
  • Effectively manage the credit control status to ensure that premium payment and
    collection is done on a timely basis
  • Follow-up on renewals to ensure business retention is optimized and the prescribed
    retention ratio is achieved
  • Assist in pricing of the various products and schemes
  • Coordinate presentations to scheme members e.g. health talks, medical camps etc.
  • Foster good relationship and customer management through excellent customer
    service, handling customer complaints and organizing education forums with current
    and prospective customers
  • Enforce efficient processes to ensure exceptional customer service, enhance
    customer satisfaction and achievement of the set client retention ratio
  • Foster and maintain a good corporate image in liaison with intermediaries, service
    providers, industry bodies and the general public
  • Prepare timely, accurate, informative reports to management for decision making

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Economics, Marketing or related discipline
  • Diploma in Insurance (ACII or AIIK)
  • Member of CII or IIK
  • 12 years’ experience in the insurance industry, 5 of which should be in senior
    management
  • Knowledge of insurance concepts and procedures
  • Health insurance product development
  • Customer, market and competitor understanding
  • Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of health insurance products
  • Sales and marketing skills
