  • HelpAge has been working in Ethiopia since 1992 in the areas of health and HIV & AIDS, emergency response and disaster risk management, social protection, livelihoods and care and support, as well as building the capacity of older people associations.

  • HelpAge International is responding to the south Sudanese refugee situation with special focus on specific needs of older people and other most vulnerable groups in six refugee camps in Gambella region.

  • The interventions include Health, Nutrition, Livelihoods, protection and rehabilitation of older people and person with disabilities and capacity building of humanitarian actors to ensure inclusion of older people, PwDs and their specific needs in the overall refugee response and essential service delivery interventions.

  • Helpage is looking for a motivated Driver for its refugee response coordination office in Gambella

    Key Responsibilities

  • Undertakes driving assignments of vehicle/s as and when assigned by his/her supervisor;

  • Operates, maintains and cleans assigned vehicles with care and reports any damage and/or suspected fault immediately to his/her supervisor;

  • Responsible for safe transport of staff, guests and materials assigned to him/her;

  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept overnight in a secure location and that the vehicle key is handed over to the supervisor, unless explicitly agreed on otherwise by the supervisor;

  • Records and maintains the transport log-book for any
    vehicles assigned to him/her;
    Responsible for the vehicles and all tools, equipment and spare parts on the vehicle assigned to him/her;

  • Examine and identify the defect of vehicle and Liaises with his/her supervisor to ensure that routine service and maintenance is undertaken timely;

  • Carries out errands and performs as required.

  • Check and verify the correctness of the repair of vehicle made by outside garages.

  • Check oil, tire, brakes and other electrical system before starting driving the car.

  • Drive vehicle according to traffic regulation and standard.

  • Report accident timely to his/her supervisor.

  • Respect and Compile to HelpAge Vehicle policy

  • Perform other related function as assigned by immediate supervisor.

    Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Preventing harm and abuse from our people, operations and programmes, to anyone that encounters our work;

  • Reporting all safeguarding incidents they see, hear, hear about or suspect, using our internal reporting mechanism;

  • Complying with all safeguarding framework policies and practices;

  • Completing mandatory training courses relating to our safeguarding policy framework and comply with HR vetting procedures

    Job Requirements

    Qualification and Experience

    Essential

    Education and Experience

  • Completion of secondary education;

  • At least 4-6 years of experience for Diploma minimum of 4 years’ experience

  • Experience in working with NGOs and experience in refugee and other humanitarian emergency context

    Training

  • Training on automotive/auto-mechanics with good practical and Driving and preventive maintenance training course background is advantageous

    Skills and Competencies

  • At least third level valid driving license for land cruisers;

  • Working language of the area is preferred

  • Good working knowledge of written and spoken English is essential.
