Heifer International NGO East Africa Youth Inclusion Project Agriculture Value Chains Manager Jobs in Uganda

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the successful implementation of the value chains approach in the EAYIP project.
  • Create and strengthen linkages between EAYIP’s beneficiaries and the private sector.
    Support the development and empowerment of youth participating in hub based value chains through employment or as direct participants.
  • Working in collaboration with the Social Capital and Cluster Manager, support the replication of existing and development of new hubs for supporting youth.
  • Accountable for the planning, documentation and analysis of information and activites that ensure the timely achievement of EAYIP’s outputs and outcomes.
  • Develop the capacity of local cooperatives, NGOs and partners to identify and strengthen selected EAYIP value chains to be more youth-inclusive.

    Qualifications

  • Strong business skills, leadership, strategic and innovation skills.
  • Fluency in English (knowledge of other languages spoken in Uganda is a plus).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in best practices in pro-poor value chain development that reaches women, youth, the poor, and underprivileged.
  • Demonstrated creativity, ability to think systematically, willingness and ability to incorporate innovative solutions and design catalytic activities within value chains (e.g. the concept of quality-based pricing).
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement strategies to provide institutional capacity building to key partner institutions to build a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable dairy industry.
  • Knowledge of and experience in setting up cottage industries for processing locally branded dairy products (e.g. cheese, butter, fortified milk and yoghurt among others) & other agricultural products for onward supply to niche markets as well as implementing consumption promotion/stimulation strategies in the context of agricultural sector.
  • Experience in providing market information to hubs / cooperatives and linkages to service providers e.g. input dealers, buyers / exporters etc.
  • Experience establishing strategic alliances and joint ventures with local and foreign processors.
  • Knowledge of equity financing (e.g. venture capital and/or private equity investing).
  • Strong computer literacy, preferably with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the fields of Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Rural Development, Enterprise Development or other related field plus five (5) years of successful experience in development work in private sector in Uganda.

    Heifer International NGO Country Resource Mobilization Manager Jobs in Uganda

    Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with IBD and country teams, design a road map to set resource mobilization and partnership goals, that would guide the business development (BD)work for Heifer International in the country of Uganda.
  • Conduct market assessment and in-country funding priorities and
    trends, and update the IBD and country team on a regular basis.
  • Build, nurture and document relationships with institutional funders and potential host-country government departments in country and position Heifer for partnerships.
  • Assess, identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with existing and potential local and international partners leading to mutual business partnerships.
  • Assist country office in producing appropriate marketing materials, e.g. capability statements, Past Performance Reports (PPRs), etc. for positioning and proposals.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the design, writing, review and approval of project proposals and concept papers for submission to funders.
  • In collaboration with other resource mobilization colleagues, design and deliver business development training and capacity building workshops and mentoring services to country office and other Heifer staff, as needed.

    Qualifications

  • Experience in living and working in Africa.
    Demonstrated success leading proposal teams for United States Agency for International
  • Development (USAID), European Union (EU), and other bi-lateral and multilateral agencies.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-partner proposals.
  • Exceptional program design, writing, and editing skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce high-quality work under pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically, regionally and internationally for assignments including travel to Heifer Headquarter’s (HQ) and other offices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal colleagues and external clients.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, coaching and communication skills.
  • Strong, proven team-building and change/transition management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years of job-related experience in Uganda or East Africa.
  • Fluent in English (fluency in other languages is a plus).
  • Master’s degree in business development or international development or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) or more years living and working in Uganda or East Africa.
