HCS Affiliates Group Field Operations Engineer - Fibre Jobs in Kenya; The Field Operations Engineer – Fibre will be responsible for routine and corrective maintenance, root cause analysis, and network quality initiatives for the fibre optic network.

The role ensures fibre segment availability, service continuity, and achievement of KPIs while maintaining compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, test, and repair fibre network infrastructure including optical cable, closure kits, ducts, and manholes.

  • Generate sensor indicators and execute inspections to prevent faults.

  • Conduct regular inspections and repair defects in assigned systems.

  • Prepare and maintain system records and diagrams.

  • Perform fibre optic maintenance including break/link analysis, splicing, core alignment, and splice quality validation.

  • Ensure safe work environment by following HSE, engineering standards, and legal regulations.

  • Track performance and suggest improvement initiatives.

  • Monitor and align network costs with Finance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by line manager.

    Principal Outputs
  • Achieve performance KPIs.

  • Ensure fibre segment availability of 98%.

  • Complete 80% of trouble tickets within SLA.

  • Ensure fibre splices with slope <0.25dB/km.

  • Reconnect 80% of disconnected lines
    within 2 hours after payment.

  • Complete 80% of provision & cessation cases within 24 hours.

  • Resolve 80% of faults within 4 hours.

  • Conduct quarterly routine maintenance and provide power autonomy status for each node.

  • Complete feasibility tickets within 24 hours.

    Qualifications – Academic & Professional
  • BSc in Electronic/Electrical/Telecommunication Engineering or related field.

  • Higher Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

  • Training and certification in fibre technology.

  • Proficiency in MS Office tools.

  • Valid Kenyan driving license.

    Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in fibre maintenance.

  • Proven track record in trend analysis, root cause analysis, and improving service availability.

  • 3–5 years in the Telkom industry with 1–2 years relevant technical experience in a large national network.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and calmness under pressure.

  • Team player, self‑motivated, and committed to continual improvement.
