Job Context:

The Inclusive Education Specialist will provide technical guidance, supervision, monitoring and support to Kenya in the development, implementation and improvement of Inclusive Education programmes focusing on 4 Inclusive Education projects funded by ECHO, Porticus, DFID and MCF in both Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps.

There have been multiple Inclusive Education (IE) projects in two camps with several consortium partner organizations. HI Kenya is placing itself to focus on high level strategic work e.g., development of IE teacher training module and a school accessibility toolkit at the national level, advocacy for disability data in EMIS.

To carry out of this project, HI KENYA is looking for Inclusion Education Specialist for 12 months.

Your Mission:

Under the direct management of the Technical Unit Manager, you will be in charge of technical support related to Inclusive Educational Services to IE project teams. More precisely, you will:

  • Develop project implementation strategies, operation plans and ensure quality assurance to meet the projects’ objectives within the project time frame through the technical perspectives

  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure strong coordination with project teams, donor and partners for smooth planning and implementation of project activities

  • Provide technical support and inputs, linked with requested help-desk services from donor and implementing partners

  • Build the capacity of the project team on the project components and organizational management

  • Maintain effective team cooperation via coordination meeting and regular meetings with the project team, so that there are efficient internal communications of information between team members, supervisors, consortium partners and implementing partners

  • Liaise with project related stakeholders to explore various possibilities for developing / bringing in policy level changes

  • As Inclusive Education Specialist, you will ensure technical quality of all Inclusive Education related activities:

  • Develop the strategy of the Education sector

  • Represent HI in any technical forum related to Education including the global community of practice

  • Ensure technical support and technical monitoring of activities

  • Develop appropriate technical tools and guidelines in line with the global documentations and in close coordination with the HQ Global Inclusive Education Specialist

    Your Profile:

  • You hold at least a Bachelor degree in Education (Inclusive education a plus) or related degree.

  • You hold master degree in Inclusive Education, Teaching and Learning, Curriculum Development, Education Policy Analysis, Child Development or any other related field an added advantage.

  • You have 5 years’ experience in education in development and/ or in emergency, in designing technical tools and materials and
    providing capacity building in education projects.

  • You have experience of working with persons with disabilities, especially children

  • Experience in working with local government and international and local development partners for integrated, multi-sectoral Inclusive Education interventions

  • Experience in advocacy is a plus

    Characteristics of the Position:

    Kenya is a large country with a good quality of life despite urban insecurity in Nairobi. The rainy seasons are from March/April to May/June (long rains) and October to November/ December (short rains).

    Nairobi provides access to many entertainment, education and health facilities. HI has a head office in the business district called Westlands Accommodation for all different preferences is available. Mobility around the city is easy, vehicle taxis and motorcycle taxis are available for movement around the city, although the use of public buses is not allowed.

    The position is based in Nairobi however the staff will be required to spend 50% of the time in Nairobi to coordinate with the Ministry of Education (MoE), Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and other key actors, and while other 25% will be at the Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps each to ensure capacity building of project teams and quality implementation of project activities.

    Conditions:

  • 12 months International contract starting from 2nd, january 2023

  • Unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals

  • Pension scheme adapted to the situation of our employees: If you already have a personal pension scheme HI will contribute at the same level of your personal monthly contribution with a maximum of 272.53€/month ; If you do not have a personal pension scheme, we will open a private pension account with your contribution of 272.53€/month and a contribution of HI of the same amount

  • Medical coverage with 50% of employee contribution

  • Repatriation insurance paid by HI

  • Salary from 2 760 € gross/month upon experience

  • Perdiem: 597,75€ € net/month - paid in the field

  • Paid leaves: 25 days per year;

  • R&R: according to the level of the mission: 1 day per month

  • open to couples

  • Support travel costs (air ticket & visa) for accompanying dependent and health/ repatriation insurance if the dependent has no income/
    Mission of more than 18 months: payment of one yearly additional return flight

  • Housing: individual taken in charge by HI
